Steve Jobs "Have faith that you can change the world!"

Steve Jobs' honest entrepreneurial spirit to be useful and beneficial to the world

-Gap-Hyun Jeon (Columnist living in the US)

These are the words of Steve Jobs, the founder and CEO of Apple, to his employees and the youth of the world. For that reason, people seem to have referred to him as the embodiment and substance of the spirit of challenge.

On October 5th, on the 10th anniversary of Steve Jobs' death, Apple uploaded a short 2-minute and 50-second commemorative video on its website, and through the video, they narrated the same spirit of Jobs. And as they did, they reminded me of his language and heard him say that everything you think of life is made by people who aren't smarter than you. By telling him that you can change the world, and you can make an impact.

His spirit and language were spoken by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who said that he recalled the spirit of Steve Jobs, taking notes of the words he wrote while he was alive and distributing them to employees. It was meant to instill in him his conviction that passionate people can improve the world, so we should see the world in terms of what it can be, not what it is.

That seems to be reflected in the flashbacks of former Apple chief design officer Jonathan Ive. Because Steve was not preoccupied with money or power, and focused on that part, saying that he believed that creating something beautiful, useful, and empowering was the way to express his love for humanity. He said he loved Jobs' way of looking at the world, and recalled that there was always beauty and freshness in the way he saw the world.

He was curious about many fields, and even if it was a small possibility, he did not give up on the challenge and did not give up on the quest for ideas and persistently pursued it. It seems to be well reflected in his family as well. Because they recalled that he had taught us to accept the beauty of the world as it is, to be curious about new ideas around us, to look beyond what we see, and to be humble with a beginner's mind.

On the 5th, Forbes introduced his customer-centric mindset in an article titled How to Make Great Products that Jobs left behind, and introduced that he was more of a customer- and people-centric entrepreneur than anyone else. The article covered his customer- and people-centered business mindset and entrepreneurial spirit. The magazine wrote that he clearly had an entrepreneurial spirit that neither marketing nor technology alone would make him successful, and that he saw an understanding of customers and human needs-needs as a prerequisite for success. They analyzed his research activities and business mind like that. He thinks first about how to help customers and how to give them joy, which is his standard and spirit for creating products.

For that reason, they may have viewed Steve Jobs as a religious idealist rather than an entrepreneur who prioritized only profit and income generation. One example of this is the message of Tim Cook and others who defined a part of Jobs' life as a person who lived today by imagining a vision for tomorrow and the future. Looking at Jobs's humanity and entrepreneurial spirit, I wanted to read where his spirit came from and where it came from.

Steve Jobs meets the world for the first time as an unlucky boy who cannot be compared to others.

He was born on February 24, 1955, the son of Joanne Sieble, and soon after her birth, she had to leave the side of his mother Sieble and face the misfortune of living. His mother, Sib, falls in love with Abdulpata John Dalari, a Syrian native. However, Sibble's father vehemently opposes such a relationship and marriage. This is because if she married her Syrian-born Dalari Lee, he would not hesitate to oppose her intimidation by severing her daughter's ties by excluding her from his own household. However, while Dalari was a professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin, Sibble met him and could not give up on him, and in the summer of 1954 he traveled to his homeland Syria. And he gets pregnant there. Steve Jobs was established as the womb of his mother Sibble.

Then they returned from his travels in Syria, his homeland, and started a new life in San Francisco, where Jobs was born. Unable to withstand her father's opposition, she eventually decides to adopt her son Jobs to her other parents. And go through the adoption process. Even before his birth, Jobs was born with the misfortune of being an adopted child. The couple, of course, made the decision with a plan to visit Sieble's father soon after he died. However, Jobs later confessed that he was 1000% his parents to his adoptive parents, and to his biological parents, he was nothing more than a bank for my sperm and eggs, nothing more and nothing less.

Less than two weeks after Jobs' adoption process was over, Sibble's father passed away, and they were married. And Jobs is reborn as the adopted child of Paul Jobs and Clara Hegopian. Jobs later considered his position tragic that he had been abandoned by his biological parents and adopted, and it seems that his thoughts, at least in part, influenced his personality formation. It was made known by Del Yocam, a longtime acquaintance and colleague of Jobs, who showed an obsession to completely control himself and those with whom Jobs planned and made something, and that was the fact that he was an adopted child. Probably because you said it was part of the formed personality.

Jobs said that when he heard from his colleagues or friends that he was an adopted child or that his parents were not his biological parents, he reacted very nervously and sharply. Of course, his adoptive parents informed him from an early age that he was adopted, and they taught him to build machines from a young age so that he could do it well, giving him a job so that he could repeat the same method over and over again.

However, as a boy, Jobs had a rather eccentric personality, which made him famous for frequently skipping classes from his homeroom teacher, Hahi Hill, in middle school. Nevertheless, Hill took special care of him, and eventually he resumed classes with the affectionate attention of Mr. Hahi Hill, where he obtained an amateur electronics kit called Hiskit. With that opportunity, he learned how to operate electronics and joined Hewlett Pickert.

He called Hewlett Pickert, CEO of Hewlett, and asked for spare parts to build a frequency counter, and CEO Hewlett grants his request. After school at Hewlett Pickert, he took a class lecture, where he met Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. And that summer, they were hired jointly by the Hewlett-Pickert company.

Then, in 1972, Jobs enrolled at Reed College, but dropped out after taking the first semester, and returned to California to join the Whole Brew Computer Club at the invitation of Wozniak. Through such a relationship, he gained basic knowledge of the IT industry and computer development research. In 1974, he returned to Los Angeles, where his adoptive parents lived, and applied for a job at video game maker Atari. And get rejected. However, he did not stop there and met Atari co-founder Al Alcon, who persistently begged him to join the company. He is hired by Alcon.

Bushnell instructed Jobs to design a brick-breaking game called Breakout, and promised to pay a proportional bonus if he designs the machine with fewer than 50 chips. Jobs promises to pay half of that pay to his colleague Wozniak, who agreed to do his job with him. Of course, Wozniak succeeds in designing it with only 47 chips. However, he received a large sum of $5,000, but only paid $350 to his friend and colleague, Wozniak. Nevertheless, they did not separate and walk the path of co-founding.

After that, they co-founded Apple. Apple was born and stood up by them in his garage just like that. However, as the Macintosh project failed, he was eventually kicked out of Apple. However, after that, Apple, which had to go through severe financial difficulties, re-appointed him as CEO, and walked the path of victory.

His tenacious research attitude and human-centered entrepreneurial spirit may have been partly attributed to the teachings of his adoptive parents. They respected and encouraged his original spirit of seeing the world from his own point of view. Because of that, he may have tried to persistently pursue his own method and insight rather than his conventional way of finding clues to solving problems.

Michael Dell, founder and CEO of Dell Technologies, tells the story of his relationship with Jobs in his memoir, "Play Nice But Win.“

Jobs had a conflict with the management even when the accumulated losses were piling up like a mountain, and eventually he was kicked out of Apple, the company he founded. And he starts NEXT, a computer software company. He came to me at Next to ask Dell to use his computer operating system. However, I rejected his offer and request without hesitation. And in 1997, returning to Apple, which was in financial crisis, Jobs came back to me again by creating an operating system that ported Apple's Mac software to Next's software. On the spot, Jobs suggested that Dell computers run both Microsoft Windows and Mac OS at the same time, leaving the customer to decide. He demanded royalties on every Dell computer sold. In the end, the negotiations broke down, but I can tell. “If this negotiation had been reached, it would have changed the history of IT dramatically,” said Dell. “People who want to do great things are different, no matter what. It's because he takes an original approach." He said, "You can't achieve amazing things by following the rules.

The reason he was able to have a tenacious, persistent, and human-centered entrepreneurship was probably due to his reliance on the teachings and enlightenment of Buddhism, which he liked and even walked the path of training himself.

Jobs majored in philosophy at Reed University in Oregon for one year, and then lived in a community on a farm called All-in-One Farm in that state. Along the way, he met the Japanese monk Otokawa Kofun Chino. Under his influence, he fell in love with Buddhism while traveling to the Himalayas. Monk Otokawa became Jobs' spiritual mentor and influenced his spiritual life. It is said that the religious teacher even officiated at Jobs' wedding.

There were a few things that came to mind while organizing this story. I can name a few, but I want to consider only two.

We praise and commemorate his research attitude and entrepreneurial spirit that he tried to find a clue to solving problems with his own original thinking and method rather than following the existing method, and that he should create something useful and useful for people and the world. It's the first thing I thought of. I could understand that the former's original character and spirit were influenced by the process of growth, but I wondered if his entrepreneurial spirit to create something useful and useful for humans was due to the influence of religious ideology. Of course, both the former and the latter, thinking that innate nature made it possible.

And the other is that I admire the honest entrepreneurial spirit of Michael Dell, the founder and CEO of Dell Technologies. It was because I could read that he was recalling the full story of the story that happened between him and Jobs.

Steve Jobs and Michael Dell seem to have been relatively honest IT researchers and honest entrepreneurs. No, they were honest. It seems that that part of them touched my heart deeply with a good feeling. Because that part of them that felt honest was really good.

His entrepreneurial spirit and the value of his life to create finished products that are more useful to people than money, and to be used more easily and conveniently, are implied in the short words he said to him when he recruited Pepsi President John Scholar to Apple. There seems to be.

Jobs told him, "Will you sell sugar water until the end of your life, or will you come and change the world?" John was persuaded by those words and without hesitation He said he joined with Jobs. I thought it was a really clean and cool scene. Because it seemed that the honest entrepreneurial spirit of the two men to be useful and beneficial to the world was coming together.

I couldn't shake the thought that his heart was able to say that, and that he was the one who, after hearing those words, left everything and followed him. I think that's why they wanted to honor their entrepreneurial spirit.
