8일 대한적십자사는 공식 보도자료를 통해 “김선호가 자립준비청년(보호종료아동) 자립을 위해 팬미팅 수익금 1억 원을 기부했다”고 밝혔다.
김선호는 팬덤 투표를 통해 자립준비청년 후원을 결정했으며, 자립준비청년을 위한 대한적십자사의 지원 활동을 소개받고 자립준비청년들의 새로운 출발과 꿈을 응원하고자 동참을 결심했다.
대한적십자사는 김선호의 요청에 따라 기부금을 자립준비청년들의 자립역량을 키울 수 있는 프로그램에 사용할 예정이다. 대한적십자사는 자립준비청년에게 심리적 안정을 위한 마음 안정 프로그램과 자립 기반을 제공하기 위한 맞춤형 물품을 제공하고 있다.
김선호는 “이번 기부는 팬 여러분이 해주신 기부다. 늘 함께해 주시는 팬 여러분께 감사드린다. 이번 기회를 통해 홀로서기를 해야 하는 청년들에게 조금이나마 보탬이 되었으면 좋겠다”고 기부 소감을 밝혔다.
신희영 회장은 “한 해 약 2500명의 자립준비청년들이 보호가 종료돼 세상에 홀로 서고 있으며, 지난 3년간 사회적 무관심으로 20여 명의 자립준비청년들이 극단적인 선택을 했다”며 “심리적·경제적 어려움을 겪고 있는 청년들이 주거·정서 지원 프로그램을 통해 사회공동체의 일원으로서 당당히 자립할 수 있기를 바란다”고 감사 인사를 전했다.
김선호는 포항 태풍 이재민을 위한 기부, 소아암 환자와 희귀난치성 질환을 앓고 있는 어린이들의 치료비를 위한 기부 등을 진행한 바 있다. 또한 김선호의 팬들도 선한 영향력을 받아 취약계층을 위한 나눔을 실천하고 있다.
