It was the second in Gyeongsangbuk-do and the 23rd in Korea.

In Gyeongbuk, the second patient occurred a week after the first Mpox confirmed patient occurred on April 18. It is the 23rd patient in Korea.

The 23rd patient visited the public health center with symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes and skin lesions, but was confirmed positive in the test conducted by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Health and Environment Research Institute after suspecting Mpox infection.

According to North Gyeongsang Province, the patient is presumed to have a domestic infection as there is no history of overseas travel within three weeks of the first symptom onset. He is currently undergoing hospitalization in an isolation ward and is said to be in good overall condition.

According to related laws that cannot reveal the identity of the confirmed person, such as region and gender, Gyeongbuk Province did not send out any information on this day. However, on the 24th, the confirmed case was confirmed as a resident of Gyeongsan, due to the Gyeongsan City officializing the occurrence of patients in the region through a press release. Gyeongbuk-do and Gyeongsan-si are conducting in-depth epidemiological investigations on risk factors and infection routes to block additional transmission through the operation of a quarantine countermeasure team and on-site response team (selected clinics).

Mpox symptoms and coping

Mpox is an acute fever and rash disease caused by monkeypox virus infection. The main symptoms include fever, headache, lymphadenopathy, muscle pain, and local skin lesions (ulcers, swelling, and rash) accompanied by anogenital pain. appears and lasts for 2 to 4 weeks, then heals naturally, and the fatality rate is known to be less than 1%.

Unlike respiratory diseases, infection is spread through close physical contact (skin contact or sexual contact) within 3 weeks before the first symptom occurs and is transferred to the virus. Monkeypox virus can be transmitted through contact with infected animals (such as rodents and monkeys such as rats and squirrels), infected people, or materials contaminated with the virus, and can be transmitted vertically from an infected mother to her fetus through the placenta.

The main route of infection for Mpox patients confirmed in Korea is close contact (skin contact) in facilities mainly used by high-risk groups, and it is reported that there is little possibility of infection when using general multi-use facilities. There is no evidence of transmission of the virus.

Meanwhile, Kim Jin-hyeon, head of the Welfare and Health Bureau of North Gyeongsang Province, requested that "the personal information of those reporting suspicious symptoms is thoroughly protected, so if you have suspicious symptoms, please report them without hesitation."
