Massive anti-government protests in Seoul scare the Yoon Seok-yeol government!

200,000 people gathered for the 15th Candlelight Movement in Seoul (announced by the organizers) “A strange collapse of power at the beginning of the term of office - a phenomenon of power dissent”

The weekend rally (15 times) led by the Candlelight Action (Candlelight Victory Conversion Action) was held in the afternoon of November 19th. The 'Special Prosecutor Kim Geon-hee, Yoon Seok-yeol's resignation, and a nationwide candlelight vigil' were held in the area of Gwanghwamun - Seoul Station - Yongsan (near Taepyeong-ro, Sejong-daero, Yongsan-gu, Jung-gu).

In a press release, the Candlelight Movement said, “After the 15th National Candlelight March event, the march was scheduled to be divided into two directions to march in the direction of Noksapyeong Station and Shinyongsan Station for the performance surrounding the President’s Office in Yongsan. However, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department issued a partial ban notice limiting the march to Exit 11 of the Samgak area due to traffic problems. As for the candlelight vigil, it was judged that the partial ban notice from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department undermined the planning and purpose of the candlelight march, and applied for a provisional injunction against it. On the 18th, the court cited an application for provisional injunction against the candlelight vigil, and it became possible to march around the presidential office, and it will proceed as scheduled.” As a result, the protesters marched from Gwanghwamun-Seoul Station to the vicinity of the Yongsan Presidential Office.

On the afternoon of the 19th, more people attended the 15th anti-government protest than the previous one, making the core of the government tremble with anxiety. Regarding the number of participants in the protest, Newsis said, “The candlelight action initially reported that 100,000 people attended the rally, but the actual number of attendees was estimated at 30,000 by the police and 200,000 by the organizers at 5:40 pm. .” Some media also reported that the organizers accepted the tally statistics and reported that the number of people attending the demonstration was 200,000.

The weekend rallies (15 times) led by the Candlelight Movement (Candlelight Victory Transition Movement) are anti-government demonstrations by non-political groups. However, members of the Democratic Party of Korea and independent members of the main opposition party also attended, giving a glimpse of the phenomenon of outside politics. 'Newsis News', which is affiliated with this magazine, said in a report related to Iwan that day, "Ahn Min-seok, Kim Yong-min, Kang Min-jeong, Yu Jeong-ju, Yang Yi Won-young, Hwang Un-ha and independent lawmakers Min Hyung-bae said that the candlelight victory conversion action (candlelight action) on this day began around 4:00 p.m. in Jung-gu, Seoul. They attended the 'Special Prosecutor Kim Gun-hee, Yun Seok-yeol's resignation, and a nationwide candlelight vigil' held near Taepyeong-ro and Sejong-daero,” it reported.

The candlelight vigil that day was broadcast live by some Internet media outlets, including fact newspapers. In the live broadcast, it was shown that the protesters filled the plaza in front of Seoul City Hall and shocked Kwon-bu's heart. Small candlelight vigils are also being held in the provinces. In particular, large-scale anti-government demonstrations held in Seoul are making the Yoon Seok-yeol government frightened (怯 = having a fearful or fearful mind). This is because magnificent anti-government slogans echoed from under the nose of the presidential office in Yongsan, Seoul.

Before the protest, the Candlelight Movement reported that the number of people expected to attend the rally was around 100,000. However, the police estimate is around 30,000. Organizers did not believe the police's estimate. The number of attendees was counted and announced as 200,000. The demonstration was attended by a large number of opposition parties and independent lawmakers, and was out of the nature of an anti-government protest led by a pure civic group. Politicians began to get involved in asphalt politics by leaving the political scene in Yeouido. It may have been possible for the political world to intervene in the mobilization of the protesters, and to gather large-scale protesters. It is a matter of the size of the protesters who participated in the protest that day, and if it is 200,000 as announced by the organizers, it is a large-scale anti-government demonstration.

When the Yoon Seok-yeol regime entered its 7th month, the demand for the resignation of the president was openly shown around the world. Key officials of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration would have watched the protest site on this day near the protest site or through the media. It will be remembered as a heartbreaking moment because of the strange collapse of power at the beginning of his term - a phenomenon of power dissent.

Massive anti-government protests on the asphalt that take place at the end of each week in the center of Seoul mean the absence of politics. The Yoon Seok-yeol government is by no means similar to the Park Chung-hee and Chun Doo-hwan governments. It is not a regime created by a military coup. It is a government elected by each voter. It is a very clean, legitimized government. However, it is non-political to strongly demand his resignation after seven months in office.

Now, Korean politics is watching the phenomenon of degenerating into asphalt mob politics with no promise for the future. It is never the time for politicians to use asphalt politics. It is around the beginning of the government. Therefore, it is time for politics worthy of politics, politics of governance. At the protest site that day, a member of the National Assembly shouted a slogan, “Take responsibility for Yoon Seok-yeol, the real culprit of the October 29 tragedy (Itaewon).” Now is not the time for that. It's time to find reason. There seems to be no justification for numerous citizens and people to come out on the asphalt and shout for the resignation of the president while wasting their precious time on the weekend. Attempting to oust a president who was elected through a fair election process means corruption in politics and a vicious cycle with no alternative. When politics dies, the state dies with it. It is high time for the ruling and opposition parties to make efforts to restore political power. moonilsuk@naver.com
