Dr. Han Seol mentions “Germany and Japan, de-Americanization”...Why?

“The changes in Germany and Japan show that America’s influence in the international community is not what it used to be.”

-Reporter Park Jeong-dae

Dr. Han Seol (former director of the Army Military Research Institute-Reserve Director; Doctor of Ancient History) posted on Facebook on November 6th titled “American Hegemony, Betrayal of Germany and Japan?”, discussing the de-Americanization of Germany and Japan. mentioned The analysis showed that Germany is pro-China, and Japan is pro-Russian.

In this article, Dr. Han Seol dealt in depth with the topic of pro-Chineseization in Germany. Dr. Han Seol said, “Changes are taking place that can be evaluated as a watershed in the world situation. It is a change of attitude between Germany and Japan. Among them, the most notable is the strengthening of relations with China. If Germany gets closer to China, the US hegemony will turn strangely. Germany and Japan are the most important countries for the US to maintain hegemony. Of course, there are Anglo-Saxon countries such as Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, but the importance of Germany and Japan cannot be overstated in that Germany represents Europe and Japan represents Asia. But Germany and Japan are changing strangely,” he pointed out in the preface of the article.

Regarding Germany's pro-Chinese tendencies, he said, "Prime Minister Scholz's visit to China is as if the United States has overtaken him. In a way, it can be said that the approaches of China and Germany have been sufficiently foreseen from before. This is because large-scale transactions between China and Germany continued to take place prior to Scholz's visit to China. Germany sold its 24.9% stake in Hamburg port to China's state-owned Cosco shipping company. In the meantime, Germany has rejected China's Cosco's request to buy a stake in the port. However, he suddenly changed his attitude and sold his stake to China. In the future, Hamburg is likely to overtake Amsterdam as the number one port in Europe. This is because China will shift all of its shipping volume to Hamburg. The reason China made such a bold investment is probably because Germany has shown a friendly attitude toward China,” he said. It signed an Airbus purchase contract worth 25 trillion won. China has previously signed an Airbus purchase agreement with Germany. In July, it signed a contract to purchase 292 A320 units for $37.2 billion (about 52.6 trillion won), and in September ordered 40 A320 neo-family aircraft (about 6.8 trillion won). In the second half of this year, orders for Eververse exceeded 84 trillion won. It will not be comfortable for the United States and Boeing to view this deal.”

Regarding Japan's pro-Russianization, he said, "The change in Japan is also unusual. Japan has invested a 30% stake in Russia's Sakhalin-1 oil and gas development project. I have said many times that Japan's attitude seems to be very different from the past. In particular, according to the New York Times report, Japan's trade with Russia increased by 13% compared to before the Ukraine war. The sale of Japanese government bonds has plunged the U.S. government bond market into chaos.” In response to the question “Why did Japan do this?”, he interpreted it as “Japan also showed its will that it will no longer be attacked by the United States.”

In the conclusion of this article, Dr. Han Seol said, “During the Cold War, America's strongest allies were Germany and Japan. Recently, Germany and Japan are changing little by little. The changes in Germany and Japan show that the US influence in the international community is not what it was before. It shows that both Japan and Germany can turn around if they judge that the harm outweighs the gain in their relationship with the United States,” he added.
