Embrace hardship!

“There is no one in the world who succeeds without suffering”

- Poet Kim Deok-kwon

There is no one in the world who is successful without hardship. Then, rather than avoiding suffering, shouldn't we shout 'Welcome to suffering'? I, too, have led the family with my younger brothers and sisters, overcoming unspeakable hardships, starting with selling rice at the Jungang Market in Seoul with my small and fragile mother since I was a child.

I don't know if it's for that reason, but people talk about overcoming hardships the most. In particular, the most common story men talk about is the military. Why can't we stop talking all night long? This is probably because I had the most hardships and difficulties when I was in the army.

The same is true of the stories of married women in the old days. The reason why marriages that are hotter than chili peppers are constantly coming out is probably because of the history of hardship. So is our life. Without stumbling blocks and barriers in life's journey, there may not be much to talk about.

The reason there are many stories in the lives of saints and great men is probably because they are dotted with a history of hardship. The French historian Gabriel Daniel (1646-1728) put it this way:

“Sorrow is the salt of life. A good captain cannot be sitting on land. The experience of going out to sea and meeting rough storms makes a competent captain. You can understand the power of war only when you step into the field of battle. A man's true courage is revealed only when he stands in the most difficult or most dangerous position of his life."

This phrase is also found in American 'Dallen Peterson's 'Miracle of Cleaning'. “Embrace the pain. In my experience, the times when you learn the most are times of adversity, loss, and mistakes. Adversity trains you. No one seeks defeat or suffering. But without adversity, we would be too easy. The sure road to growth is through suffering.”

That's right. Reversing ‘adversity’ becomes ‘career’. Only those who stumbled upon a stumbling block, nevertheless turned into a stepping stone and got up again, have their own story. A person who tells a lot about himself is a person who lives his life. People who do not have their own story are always listening to and telling other people's stories.

People who create their own success stories that overcome these obstacles as stepping stones often bloom late in their lives. That is what we call the ‘waiting streak (大器晩成) type’. There is a story of the ‘atmospheric longevity’ type in <Weiji Choi Yeomjeon (魏志 崔琰傳)> of ‘The Three Kingdoms.

During the Three Kingdoms period, in Wei, there was a famous general named Choi Yin (崔琰). However, his cousin, ‘Choi Rim (崔林)’, did not succeed because of his poor appearance, and was despised by his family and relatives. However, Choi Yeom-man saw through the character of Choi Rim and said:

“Large bells and pots are not made so easily. Likewise, it takes a long time for a big character to become a great person. You are the type of hyung who is just like that. leave it alone He must be a great figure... … .” Indeed, according to the words, Choi Rim finally became one of the three princes who aide to the Son of Heaven.

And in the 'After Hanseo' <Mawonjeon>, the story of atmospheric chronicity is also mentioned. During the reign of King Gwangwu (25-57), who founded the late Han Dynasty, there was a master named Ma Won. He started out as an official in the frontier and became General Bokpa, a title given only to generals who made great achievements after the former Han.

Ma Won became a local official for the first time in his life, and before he was appointed, he went to visit his older brother, Choi Hwang (崔況), and he gave this advice. "You're the so-called 'waiting chronic' type. Just as a skillful tree cuts a rough log just cut from the mountain into good lumber with time and effort, you too will become a great person if you use your talents and work hard. Please weigh yourself.”

That's right. There is also a saying in <Lao-tzu> that ‘large squares have no corners, and large bowls are made late’. It means that great characters are not created in a short time.

You must cross the valley of suffering to reach the top of happiness. You can enjoy the glory of success only after drinking the agony of failure. It is only by overcoming suffering that we reach joy. You can wear the laurel wreath of victory only after you sweat blood and sweat. All valuable things are the product of sweat and hard work.

Everywhere in life there is a thorny road of anguish, and we must navigate it with courage and perseverance, that is the path of life. How can we live if there is only day and no night? That's why you think of pain as a lesson in life. Only positive, active, and passionate actions are the key to success in life.

Providence is that the world's principles become yin after yang passes. Even Buddha Sotaesan (少太山) had doubts about the truth of the universe from the age of 7, and was treated as a bad person. You are on top.

How is it? Yesterday, April 28th, is <Won Buddhism Open Day>, the highest festival of Won Buddhism. Let's embrace our suffering. At the latest, joy will follow soon. duksan725@daum.net
