브레이크뉴스 노보림 기자= 정부가 코로나19 신규 확진자 수가 2만명에 달하기 전까지는 사회적 거리두기 강화를 최대한 자제하겠다는 입장을 밝혔다. 거리두기 강화는 서민 경제의 고통으로 이어지는 탓에 최대한 버텨보겠다는 생각이다.
손영래 보건복지부 중앙사고수습본부(중수본) 사회전략반장은 24일 기자단 설명회에서 "의료체계 전환 과정을 잘 버티면서 거리두기 강화는 최대한 하지 않는 방향으로 운영하는 게 목표"라며 "총 확진자가 늘어나더라도 위중증 환자를 줄이는 방향으로 갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
그는 "사회·경제적 피해가 큰 사회적 거리두기 강화 조치는 최대한 안 하면서 운영한다는 게 현재까지 판단"이라고 덧붙였다.
이어 그는 "오미크론은 델타 대비 훨씬 많은 확진자를 의료체계가 감당할 수 있다. 오미크론은 입원률이 더 떨어지기에 델타보다 의료체계 여력이 더 크다"면서 "해외 여러 자료를 봐도 오미크론 변이는 델타보다 중증으로 가는 비율이 3분의 1, 4분의 1로 나와서 감당 가능한 확진자 수가 다르다"고 설명했다.
