"Almost everyone will get Omicron". Experts warn.

Pouch Director "Omicron with unprecedented infectious efficiency will visit almost everyone."

WHO "In the next two months, half of the European population will be infected with Omicron."

It is predicted that the majority of the world's population will be infected with Omicron, a COVID-19 mutation.

According to CNN on the 11th (local time), Anthony Pouch, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), attended a CSIS event and said, "I think Omicron, which has exceptional and unprecedented infectious efficiency, will ultimately visit almost everyone."

"COVID-19 is very sneaky in a special form that has not been seen in the past 100 years," Pouch said. "From the first time it was created, Delta, and now Omicron have deceived everyone."

"People who have been vaccinated and those who have been vaccinated and even booster shots (additional vaccinations) will be exposed (omicrons), and some of them, maybe many, will be infected," he predicted.

The answer was to the effect that Omikron has considerable avoidance and propagation of vaccines, and that there is no practical way to completely neutralize them.

According to a report by the Washington Post on the same day, the number of new confirmed cases across Europe in the first week of this year doubled in two weeks, said Hans Kluege, head of the World Health Organization (WHO). "At this rate, 50% of Europe's population will be infected with Omikron within six to eight weeks."

Director Clouge expressed concern that more than 1% of the population is being confirmed every week in 26 European countries, and that this could be an unacceptable level for the health care system.

Catherine Smallwood, WHO's European Emergency Planner, also said, "It is not yet the time to call COVID-19 endemic disease. "It will be difficult to do so at least in 2022," he said. "The governments of each country should refrain from treating COVID-19 like a endemic disease."

Acting Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director Janet Woodcock also attended the Senate hearing and said, "We think we need to focus on keeping hospitals and other essential services running."

However, some say that the Omicron mutation may be the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, citing that the symptoms are weaker than the delta mutation, although the spread of Omicron is faster.

According to a clinical survey of 40 confirmed Omicron patients in Korea by the National Medical Center, symptoms of Omicron infection mainly stop at upper respiratory tract infections such as the nose and neck, and cause less pneumonia than delta mutations.

48% of Omicron infections in Korea had no symptoms at the time of hospitalization, and most of the patients with symptoms had mild symptoms similar to colds such as fever, headache, cough, and sore throat. 15% of patients showed pneumonia on lung CT, but had no or weak symptoms.

In addition, the results of comparing the aftereffects of COVID-19 with the flu showed that most of the complications were not higher than that of the flu.

Lauren Anthony Mayers, head of the U.S. University of Texas' COVID-19 model consortium, told AP, "Omicron may be the starting point, but we will someday draw a line, saying COVID-19 has moved to a much easier-to-manage disease."

Pouch also said the U.S. has yet to reach the stage of controlling COVID-19, but said, "I think we are approaching the stage of learning to live with the epidemic," adding, "We hope that there will be a very easy situation to treat when a high-risk person is infected."
