LG Electronics Cooperates with U.S. IBM to Advance and Develop Quantum Computing

LG Electronics announced on the 10th that it would cooperate with US IT company IBM to advance quantum computing and technology development.

Quantum computing can be used in various fields such as automobiles, chemistry, medicine, logistics, and finance because it can quickly process problems in areas where it was difficult to find an answer by calculating more quantities faster than existing computers.

LG Electronics has joined the 'IBM Quantum Network', a partnership formed by IBM to advance quantum computing with over 170 member companies, including corporations, research institutes, and academic institutions.

The strategy is to accelerate the development of quantum computing that can process large amounts of data for future preparations such as artificial intelligence, connected cars, big data, digital transformation, IoT, and robots by participating as a member of the IBM Quantum Network.

In particular, LG Electronics plans to focus on developing quantum computing applications using the IBM quantum computing system through cooperation with IBM.

To this end, LG Electronics will receive training on quantum computing technology from IBM and participate in IBM conferences and forums to strengthen its quantum computing-related capabilities.

Members participating in the IBM Quantum Network can use the quantum computing system provided by IBM through the cloud, as well as the quantum software development tool Qiskit (Quantum Information Science Toolkit).

Quantum computers use the properties of quantum, the smallest unit of physical quantity. Existing computers calculate 0 and 1 in bits, respectively, but quantum computers use qubits (quantum bits) to express 0 and 1 at the same time by using the superposition phenomenon, a unique characteristic of quantum. Calculate.

Jay Gambetta, IBM Fellow and Vice President of Quantum Computing, said, “We will work with LG Electronics to research new fields related to future core technologies such as connected cars and artificial intelligence using quantum computing.”

LG Electronics CTO Vice President Kim Byung-hoon said, "Based on our open innovation strategy, we will provide customers with unprecedented value by utilizing quantum computing technology for future businesses."
