History belongs to those who wait

-Hwang Heung-ryong, columnist

History doesn't go straight. But history is never lost.

It's something I always keep in mind. To those who think that history goes straight, reality will appear to be a battle of frustration, compromise, and opportunism.

But that reality is reality itself. The reality is always complicated, confusing, and insufficient, but it never deviated.

Reality sometimes retreats backwards, but it soon returns. So history is never lost.

Therefore, you have to be patient and wait patiently. History belongs to those who wait.

There are three regrets in the history of the 20th century. If the Korean independence army's advance had begun before 8.15, the 38th Division and the tragedy of the Korean War might not have occurred.

A more beautiful Republic of Korea would have been possible if Dr. Syngman Rhee had not joined hands with the pro-Japanese faction.

If the relationship between Kim Dae-jung and Kim Young-sam and Yang Kim had been one inch closer, the corrupt vested interests would not have been so severe.

The reason that history, which does not go straight, does not lose its way, is because of the power of correctness. With this power, we will have to overcome the regrets of the 20th century history.

Although there is no point in advancing domestically again, the correct way to end the 20th century is to remove the pro-Japanese DNA that permeates our society and replace the logic of corruption and vested interests with the warmth of fairness, sharing and consideration.

Only in this way can democracy mature, peace is established, and justice prevails. heungyong57@hanmail.net
