Yoon Kwan-seok, “The difference of more than 4 times with 81% of those in their 60s and older who are not receiving preferential interest rates and 17% of those in their 20s and 30s”

81% of savings account subscribers in their 60s and older are unable to apply online preferential rates due to face-to-face subscriptions

Analyzed data submitted by the Financial Supervisory Service by Rep. Yoon Kwan-seok, a member of the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee, and the ‘five major commercial banks (Kookmin, Shinhan, Woori, Hana, and Nonghyup)’ As a result, the ratio of non-face-to-face eligible subscriptions for the 2030 generation was 82.8%, while the elderly in their 60s and over accounted for only 19.1%, indicating that the majority of the elderly did not receive the preferential interest rate from non-face-to-face subscriptions.

In order to induce the activation of Internet banking and reduce paper waste due to the issuance of passbooks, banks are applying a separate preferential interest rate when applying for savings over the Internet or non-face-to-face.

If you look at the face-to-face/non-face-to-face subscription ratio of savings accounts by year, the non-face-to-face subscription ratio continues to rise.

Looking at the face-to-face/non-face-to-face savings account subscription ratio by age, it was found that the 2030 generation preferred non-face-to-face savings accounts. It had the highest non-face-to-face subscription rate.

On the other hand, it was found that the elderly in their 60s and older still subscribe to face-to-face savings accounts with an overwhelming proportion of over 80%. As of 2020, the average non-face-to-face savings account subscription rate for those aged 60 and over was 19.4%, and by bank, Woori Bank 34.1%, Shinhan Bank 29.2%, Hana Bank 25.3%, Nonghyup 4.9%, and Kookmin Bank 3.6% were the highest. In particular, in the case of Kookmin Bank and Nonghyup, the ratio of non-face-to-face savings account subscriptions was less than 5%.

Rep. Yoon Gwan-seok said, “The generational polarization in the use of online and mobile banking services is deepening, and the damage is increasing for the elderly who are not familiar with the online environment compared to the young people. It is necessary to come up with measures to narrow the preferential interest rate gap between the two countries,” he said. hpf21@naver.com
