올해 초 현대차그룹, SK그룹, 포스코그룹은 수소경제 활성화 및 탄소중립 실현을 위해 민간기업 주도의 협력 필요성을 공감하고 CEO 협의체인 ‘한국판 수소위원회’ 설립을 추진하기로 뜻을 모았다.

 

이어 효성그룹이 협의체에 참여하겠다는 의사를 밝힘에 따라 4개 그룹 회장이 회동, 수소기업협의체 설립을 본격적으로 논의하게 됐다.

 

수소기업협의체는 현대차그룹, SK그룹, 포스코그룹 등 3개 그룹이 공동의장을 맡고, 효성그룹을 포함한 4개 그룹이 수소 관련 사업 및 투자를 진행 또는 계획 중인 기업들의 추가 참여 확대를 견인한다. 오는 7월까지 참여 기업을 확정하고, 9월 중 최고경영자(CEO) 총회를 개최해 출범을 공식화할 예정이다.

 

수소기업협의체는 CEO 협의체 형태로 운영되며, 정기 총회 및 포럼 개최를 통해 국내 기업의 투자 촉진을 유도하고 수소산업 밸류체인 확대를 추진한다. 이를 통해 수소사회 구현 및 탄소중립 실현에 적극 기여한다는 목표다.

 

수소기업협의체 설립을 주도하는 4개 그룹은 수소사회 저변 확대를 위해 지속적으로 노력해 왔다.

 

현대차그룹은 2013년 세계 최초로 수소전기차를 양산하는 등 글로벌 시장을 선도하고 있으며, 2030년까지 연간 수소전기차 50만 대, 수소연료전지 시스템 70만 기를 생산하겠다는 구상이다. 상용 수소전기차 개발에 역량을 집중하여 경쟁력 있는 신차를 연이어 선보일 방침이다.

 

SK그룹은 지난해 말 수소사업 전담조직인 ‘수소사업추진단’을 신설하고, 2025년까지 수소 생산-유통-소비에 이르는 밸류체인을 구축함으로써 글로벌 1위 수소에너지 기업으로 도약한다는 목표다. 이와 함께 2023년 부생수소 3만 톤을 시작으로 2025년부터는 친환경 청정수소 25만 톤을 포함, 총 28만 톤 규모의 수소를 생산할 계획이다.
