Moody's maintains Korea's credit rating of'Aa2'..2nd place among Asian countries

Moody's, an international credit rating agency, maintained Korea's national credit rating as'Aa2' and the outlook'stable'. Aa2 is the third in Moody's credit rating system, and is second only to Singapore in Asian countries.

According to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance on the 12th, Moody's said in a press release on the day, "The reason Korea's national credit rating and outlook were kept'stable' reflects the very strong fundamentals that supported the resilient recovery from the Corona 19 shock." "Gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate was negative (-) 1.0%, better than other countries with similar ratings."

Moody's continued, "As the Korean government is expected to continue to expand fiscal stance, the national debt is at a historically high level, which can test Korea's fiscal discipline history that has been maintained for a long time." As the interest cost is stable, the debt capacity will be maintained,” he said.

In addition, "the factors that raise the credit rating are economic and structural reforms that can increase the potential growth rate and a significant reduction in geopolitical risks," he said. "The downside factors are rising geopolitical risks, strong economic damage from internal and external shocks, and government fiscal deterioration." Said. As a challenge factor, he cited'increased national debt','aging' and'risk against North Korea'.

The Ministry of Information and Communication evaluated the contents as "reconfirming the positive external view and trust of the Korean economy's ability to respond to crises and excellent resilience."

On the other hand, another international credit rating agency, Standard & Poor's (S&P), also maintained Korea's credit rating and prospects at the previous level (AA, stable) on the 28th of last month.
