Hongsi, Yuzu, and Hyodo

Hongshi and Yuja have been used as materials for filial piety and literature for more than 1,000 years.

-Dr. Chae-Soon Park

When I was young before entering her elementary school, I used to visit her oldest home in search of her grandmother. When her grandmother, with her many grandchildren under her, she would hold a red shin in my hand when her other grandchildren were not looking.

My grandmother's love at that time and the soft and sweet taste of Hongsi could not be expressed with anything.

In addition, in the village of Jajail Village, around October, there were many tense rites for ancestral rites. When I was in elementary school, I followed the place where the tense was enshrined. After the tense was over, he evenly wrapped rice cakes and fruits in a package made of rice straw. In order to receive this food, he would have followed his father at a young age and followed the tense of his low-born ancestors.

Of those foods, he put one citron produced in Goheung into the package. All other foods will soon be eaten, but the citron with a special fragrance that cannot be expressed could not be eaten. The memories of leaving the citron in the room until it hardens and turns black and smelling the scent is vivid.

These days, you can easily get hongsi and citron anywhere you like, but you can't forget the taste and aroma of hongsi and citron when you were young.

As I get older and enter winter, I miss the thoughts of my grandmother and father when I was young, the taste of Hongsi, and the scent of citron.

When I think of Hongsi and Yuja, I think of Cho Hongshiga (早紅柹歌) by Nogye Park Inro during the Joseon Dynasty.

“Cho Hong Shiga”, Inro Park (1561-1642)

You can see the sensation of 盤中 (banjung) and 早紅

Even if it's not a citron,

I am sorry for him because I have no welcome.

You can also see the red persimmon on the soban!

Although I have a heart to embrace it even if it is not citron

I'm sorry that there aren't any parents who would be happy to see you

This poem sang filial piety with Hongsi and Yuja.

Nogye Park In-ro was a man during the Joseon Dynasty, and was a warrior who fought during the Imjin War. In the latter half, he was active as a literary man who read and practiced. Is called

In-ro Park served as Yeongui-jeong during the Joseon Dynasty and made great contributions during the Imjin War. It is said that he built this ancestor.

The test of the Yukjeok Hoe Tangerine is also known as the Hoe Tangerine (懷橘故事), and it is a test about a person named Yukjeok who served as the staff of King Son Kwon of the Onion during the Three Kingdoms Period in China. When he was 6 years old, he met Wonsul, who was in power at the time. Wonsul gave a mandarin orange to eat, but the flesh took three mandarins and hid them in his arms. The fleshly man said goodbye to Won-Sul, and the tangerine in his arms fell and rolled. Wonsul asked, “Why did Yukrang come as a guest and put the mandarin oranges in his arms?” In response, the flesh replied, “I wanted to return home and give it to my mother.”

This testimony is published in ``Twenty Four Hyo (二十四孝),'' written by Gwak Geo-gyeong (郭居敬) in the Yuan Dynasty, describing the filial piety of 24 representative Chinese filial sons.

According to historical data, the flesh was born in 187 in Onara during the Three Kingdoms Period.

It is said that he was 6 years old when he put three citrons in his arms for his mother at his original bar, 1827 years ago, in 193.

Park In-ro was born in 1561, so Cho Hong-shi was about 1,440 years ago.

Hongshi and Yuja have been used as subjects of filial piety and literature in the history of penetrating China and Korea for more than 1,000 years.

In Goheung, the home of citron, there is also an oral folk song that says, “Tengja is also used by Kowado, and citron is entangled in the hands of a gentleman.” After 1980, smallpox had disappeared on the planet, but before the invention of the smallpox vaccine, many people died of smallpox, or even if they were cured, they had scars on their faces.

It is interesting to note that our predecessors compared the face of citron with smallpox to the fragrant citron, and the expression that compared the person with a smooth face to a tanja.
