The '2026 Happy Senior Center 'Kkomjirak' (Active Movement) Gymnastics Showcase'—conducted by instructors visiting local senior centers to promote health and expand leisure culture among the elderly—was successfully held on the 8th at the performance hall of the Buan Arts Center in Jeonbuk.

Organized by the local public health center, the event provided a platform for seniors to demonstrate the gymnastics skills they had diligently honed, reflecting efforts to boost health and foster leisure activities centered around senior centers in this era of longevity.

Attended by approximately 400 people—including Buan County Mayor Kwon Ik-hyeon, Buan County Council Chairman Lee Hyun-ki, Kim Seong-tae (head of the Buan chapter of the Korean Senior Citizens Association), and Public Health Center Director Park Chan-byeong, alongside representative teams of seniors from 12 townships and their families—the showcase allowed participants to proudly display their skills and demonstrate their vitality and health.

Since 2016, the Buan-gun Public Health Center has been operating the 'Happy Senior Center Kkomjirak Exercise' program, enabling seniors to enjoy exercise with their neighbors and adopt healthy lifestyle habits at local senior centers.

Under this program, professional instructors visit 220 senior centers in the county once or twice a week to lead 'lifestyle exercises' tailored to the seniors' physical capabilities and specific needs.

Buan County Mayor Kwon Ik-hyeon emphasized, "A healthy old age begins not with something extraordinary, but with a healthy lifestyle that involves moving one's body a little every day and socializing with neighbors," adding, "In this era of an aging society, healthy physical activity is paramount to ensuring a comfortable and pleasant life for seniors."

He stated, "We organized this showcase to share the 'Kkomjirak Exercises'—which seniors have been practicing in their local senior centers—with the wider community, aiming to promote healthy and enjoyable later years."

He added, "Moving forward, we will do our utmost to create a vibrant, healthy Buan where exercise is a part of daily life for all residents; this includes actively supporting diverse health programs like the Kkomjirak Exercises to enhance seniors' health and self-esteem."

Meanwhile, the Buan-gun Public Health Center is going beyond merely promoting general fitness exercises; it is continuing its efforts to ensure all residents enjoy healthy, energetic lives by integrating these activities with basic health screenings and various health management initiatives.
