Gwangju Metropolitan City Significantly Expands Direct Sales and Promotion of Agricultural and Marine Specialty Products Linked to the Capital Region and Yeosu Island Expo

Large-scale direct sales markets to open by October in locations including Nowon-gu, Seoul, City Hall Plaza, and KINTEX in Ilsan; online and offline integration to encourage sustained purchases through the official shopping mall, ‘Namdo Jangter’

(Break News Gwangju, Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Integrated Gwangju Metropolitan City is significantly expanding direct sales and promotion events linked to major hubs in the capital region and the ‘2026 Yeosu World Island Expo’ by this coming October. This initiative aims to broaden sales channels for local farms struggling due to shrinking consumption and to boost the consumption of agricultural and marine specialty products.

The Integrated Metropolitan City plans to support farmers by providing stable sales opportunities through direct sales methods that reduce distribution stages, while enabling consumers to purchase fresh local agricultural and marine specialty products at reasonable prices. First, the city will reach out to consumers in the metropolitan area by hosting the "Grand Direct Market Festival," the largest direct sales event for agricultural and marine specialties in the city, at Junggye Neighborhood Park in Nowon-gu, Seoul, from the 11th to the 13th.

Subsequently, a series of large-scale events aimed at opening up sales channels in the metropolitan area will be held leading up to the Chuseok holiday. Support for the expanded participation of local farmers will be provided for events such as "Seoro Market," held at Seoul City Hall Plaza from September 15 to 17, and the "Local Content Festa," held at KINTEX in Ilsan from September 18 to 20.

In addition, direct sales events will be operated a total of three times through October targeting employees of the Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation (SH) and nearby residents. Furthermore, promotional activities targeting domestic and international tourists and consumers are planned for the Yeosu World Island Expo, which opens in October.

In particular, the city is further strengthening promotional efforts linked with its official online shopping mall, "Namdo Market," to ensure that these on-site sales are not merely a one-off event. The plan is to establish a virtuous cycle distribution network connecting online and offline so that consumers who encounter local agricultural and marine products at offline direct sales events can continue to make purchases online.

Park Sang-mi, Head of the Agricultural and Food Distribution Division of Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan City, stated, "To provide practical assistance to farms struggling due to shrinking consumption, we will promote excellent local agricultural and marine products to more consumers and continue to expand opportunities for direct sales and promotions."
