Students from the Department of Recreational Sports at Jeonju University are helping seniors lead healthy lives in their later years.

According to Jeonju University on the 8th, the department is serving as instructors for the 'Senior Physical Fitness Improvement Academy (Second-Half Program)'—an initiative organized by Jeollabuk-do that links specialized academic training with community health promotion—marking their fourth year of participation.

Following the first-half program, the second-half sessions began on the 3rd and are held every Thursday and Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:40 AM at the Jeollabuk-do Senior Welfare Center.

The program comprises six categories—New Sports, Functional Fitness, 'Vitality-Boosting' Dance, Large-Ball Table Tennis, Healthy Walking, and Silver Healing Gymnastics—all tailored to the physical characteristics and fitness levels of the seniors.

Current students from the Department of Recreational Sports participate directly as instructors, applying the specialized knowledge and exercise coaching techniques they learned at the university to real-world settings.

In particular, the program involves assessing the physical changes of participating seniors through fitness measurements taken before and after the sessions; the accumulated data will be used to design and improve future exercise programs for the elderly.

Jin Yeon-kyung, Head of the Department of Recreational Sports, stated, "The Senior Fitness Improvement Academy, now in its fourth year, offers a meaningful opportunity for students to apply their specialized knowledge in a real-world setting and interact with local seniors."

She added, "We plan to continue these community health promotion activities—leveraging our expertise in recreational sports—to support the healthy and active lives of local seniors while simultaneously enhancing our students' practical skills."
