Daejeon City Accelerates Construction of ‘Smart City Safety Network’ Converging AI and Digital Twin
Daejeon Metropolitan City is embarking on a major innovation of its urban disaster response and safety management system by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual model (digital twin) technology.
Daejeon City announced on the 8th that it had signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding for Research and Demonstration of Urban Safety AI Model Development’ with major ICT companies and research institutions, including KAIST and Wavers Co., Ltd.
This agreement was made to establish a public-private-academic cooperation network to promote the nationwide expansion of the ‘Digital Twin Daejeon’ platform, which utilizes AI technology, and to successfully carry out the demonstration of related R&D projects.
A total of 11 institutions and companies, including Daejeon City, KAIST, Wavers Co., Ltd., DataMaker Co., Ltd., Hansung Cisco Co., Ltd., Teleworks Co., Ltd., Cuba Co., Ltd., Samitec Co., Ltd., Movements Co., Ltd., Line World Co., Ltd., and Link9 Co., Ltd., joined forces for this agreement. The participating institutions and companies will maintain close cooperation across six key areas, leveraging their respective core technologies and infrastructure.
Key areas of cooperation include: △Developing urban safety AI models and promoting demonstration R&D; △Establishing strategies for the expansion of the AI-based ‘Digital Twin Daejeon’ and conducting joint research; △Developing AI virtual model services to support decision-making; △Exchanging technology and sharing infrastructure for research projects; △Supporting the establishment of Daejeon City’s spatial information system; and △Joint planning to attract inter-agency R&D grant projects.
Based on this collaborative framework, the City plans to lay the groundwork for data-driven, scientific municipal decision-making, while simultaneously establishing an advanced urban management platform capable of proactively and intelligently responding to various urban disasters and safety accidents. Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jeong emphasized, “This agreement will serve as a significant turning point in substantially enhancing Daejeon’s urban safety capabilities by combining cutting-edge AI and digital twin technology.” He added, “We will do our utmost to maximize synergy with participating organizations to successfully complete a Daejeon-specific urban safety AI model and ensure that this leads to tangible results that citizens can experience firsthand.”
