Samcheonpo Seoul Hospital Diabetic Foot Center Celebrates 13th Anniversary… Treating 8,000 Patients
Linking Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy with Vascular Interventions… Establishing an Integrated Treatment System
Designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as an Advanced Regenerative Medicine Institution… Expanding Research on Intractable Diabetic Foot
Based on its achievement of treating over 8,000 diabetic foot patients over the past 13 years since its opening, Samcheonpo Seoul Hospital’s Diabetic Foot Center is expanding its scope of treatment into the field of advanced regenerative medicine.
On the 8th, Samcheonpo Seoul Hospital held a ‘Seminar Commemorating the 13th Anniversary of the Diabetic Foot Center and the Achievement of 8,000 Patients Treated’ at the main auditorium of the Gimhae Eastern Senior Welfare Center, sharing its treatment results to date and the direction of its advanced regenerative medicine research.
Since opening the Diabetic Foot Center incorporating hyperbaric oxygen therapy in 2013, Samcheonpo Seoul Hospital has treated over 8,000 patients to date. Diabetic foot often involves a complex combination of circulatory disorders, wounds, and infections, requiring an integrated approach that diagnoses and treats the condition of the blood vessels as well.
Accordingly, in November 2023, the hospital strengthened collaboration between the Vascular Center and the Diabetic Foot Center and established an integrated treatment system linking vascular interventional procedures with diabetic foot treatment. The Vascular Center introduced angiography equipment from Siemens of Germany to perform vascular diagnosis and interventional procedures, subsequently linking them with wound care and infection control.
Recently, the hospital was designated as an Advanced Regenerative Medicine Implementing Institution by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and on July 23, it established the Advanced Regenerative Medicine Team for Diabetic Foot. The hospital plans to explore new treatment possibilities for patients with intractable diabetic foot by combining the clinical experience of the Diabetic Foot Center with the research capabilities of the Regenerative Medicine Team.
It is also pursuing cooperation with a specialized cell regenerative medicine company based in Seoul. The hospital intends to expand research and collaboration related to cell regenerative medicine for patients whose wounds are difficult to heal due to severe tissue damage caused by vascular disease and diabetes.
Currently, the Diabetic Foot Center employs approximately 20 specialists, including the center director, specialists in orthopedics, nephrology, and radiology, six nurses at the center, four nurses and radiographers at the Vascular Center, and four members of the Advanced Regenerative Medicine Team. Patients are treated through a multidisciplinary collaborative system that covers everything from diagnosis to vascular treatment, wound care, infection control, and recovery.
Han Chang-seop, President of Samcheonpo Seoul Hospital, stated, "We have accumulated clinical experience by treating over 8,000 patients over the past 13 years," adding, "Moving forward, we will explore new possibilities for diabetic foot treatment by incorporating advanced regenerative medicine."
