Jang Dong-hyuk, Leader of the People Power Party, Urges "Stop Indiscriminate 'Farmland Survey'"
- Reporter Park Jung-dae
Jang Dong-hyuk, Leader of the People Power Party, addressed the issue of the farmland survey in a post titled "The Lee Jae-myung Administration Is Trampling on the Lives of Farmers," which was posted on Facebook on September 7.
In the post, he wrote, "They are pushing ahead with the 'farmland survey' while shouting 'Land to the tiller.' They have even deployed young part-time workers and raised the reward for reporting violations tenfold to 15 million won. Tenant farmers account for 45% of the total in our country. Among the approximately 2 million farming households, young farmers under the age of 39 number just over 150,000, failing to exceed 1%. Elderly farmers cannot stop farming no matter how sick or exhausted they are. If they stop farming, they are told to sell their land immediately." He continued, "If they cannot sell, the compulsory enforcement fine amounts to 25% of the land value. However, even if they want to sell their farmland, there are no buyers." He pointed out, "The Farmland Bank does not even buy land unless it is good quality."
He continued, "Tenant farmers are trembling in fear that they might be asked to return their land," adding, "Young farmers are furious, calling it a policy that does not fit reality. It has become 'The tiller has a crime' rather than 'The tiller has land.' For whom on earth is this 'comprehensive farmland survey' intended?"
He further asserted, "Farmland transactions have virtually disappeared. Naturally, farmland prices are plummeting. After taking away the people's homes, they are now taking away farmers' land as well. The indiscriminate 'comprehensive farmland survey' must be stopped immediately, and we must put our heads together for proper agricultural policy reform." He expressed his sentiments, stating, "Do you want to take away all the people's property and head toward communism? The people will rise up. If you try to plunder the people's property, you will be stripped of your power."
