Chairman Chung Yong-jin Attends ‘Foundry School’ Launch Ceremony... “Will Cultivate Creative and Innovative Talent”

Shinsegae Group announced on the 4th that Chairman Chung Yong-jin attended the launch ceremony of the "Foundry School," an event for fostering talent in manufacturing and high-tech industries held in Washington, D.C., and discussed ways to strengthen the AI supply chain with global leaders.

The event, held at the Trump Institute of Peace on the morning of the 3rd (local time), was organized at the invitation of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and the U.S. Department of State, and was prepared as part of an industry-academia-research collaboration project to implement the economic security alliance, "Pax Silica."

The Foundry School is one of the implementation strategies of "Pax Silica," a multilateral economic security consultative body launched under U.S. leadership last December. Through Pax Silica, the United States envisions reorganizing all stages of technology supply chains—including semiconductors, AI, high-tech manufacturing, and energy—around trusted allies, and Korea is participating alongside major friendly nations such as Japan, Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

At this launch ceremony, J.D. A large number of key figures from the U.S. political sphere attended, including U.S. Vice President John Vance, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, House Republican Leader Steve Scalise, and U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg.

In addition, executives from major companies in the AI and semiconductor sectors were present, including McCormick, President of Mehta; Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology; and Gary Dickerson, CEO of Applied Materials.

Vice President Vance, who spoke at the event, emphasized, “Industrial security is national security,” adding, “Through the Foundry School, we will provide opportunities to the next generation of entrepreneurs and engineers and let them know that there is a future for them.”

Secretary of State Rubio also stated, “To achieve the goal of re-industrialization, the three pillars of universities, industry, and government must work together,” noting that “the Foundry School will be a long-term project.” In addition, at the event, U.S. Under Secretary of State Jacob Helberg met with Chairman Chung Yong-jin and stated, “The partnership between Shinsegae Group and Reflection AI is an important milestone in Korea-U.S. cooperation in the high-tech sector,” adding, “Chairman Chung is a reliable partner in the AI supply chain alliance.”

Chairman Chung engaged in cordial discussions with CEO Raskin, Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Rubio, Senate Majority Leader Scalise, and Under Secretary Helberg, emphasizing the importance of Korea-U.S. cooperation for the success of the Pax Silica project.

At the event, Chairman Chung remarked, “Successfully leading a high-tech supply chain alliance centered on the United States is a task of our time,” adding, “If Korea and the United States join forces, we will be able to generate even greater synergy.”

He went on to express deep empathy with the vision for fostering future talent pursued by the Foundry School, stating, “The collaboration between Shinsegae Group and Reflection AI aligns with the goals of the Foundry School,” and added, “As excellent talent is essential for the development of cutting-edge industries represented by AI, Shinsegae Group will also gather and nurture talent through ceaseless creative innovation.”
