Hyundai Motor Group Accelerates ‘Vision 2040’ Carbon Neutrality with Omani Government

Hyundai Motor Group has partnered with the Omani government and key local companies to accelerate the achievement of "Vision 2040," the government's long-term national development plan, and the transition to carbon neutrality.

Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 4th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for "cooperation in eco-friendly mobility" with the Omani Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) and OOMCO, an Omani energy distributor, on the 3rd (local time) at the Salalah Sultan Qaboos Cultural Complex in Oman.

Attendees at the event included Khamis Al Shamaki, Deputy Minister for Transport at MTCIT; Tariq Al Junaidi, CEO of OOMCO; and Chung Ho-keun, Head of Hyundai Motor Group's Future Strategy Division.

Through this agreement, Hyundai Motor Group plans to work closely with key public institutions in Oman to introduce sustainable mobility solutions, starting with public transportation and public services, and to expand its business across the entire Omani mobility market in the future. The key aspects of this collaboration are the introduction of Oman's first hydrogen city buses and the establishment of ultra-fast electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Mwasalat, Oman's state-owned transport company, plans to designate a portion of Muscat's public transport routes as a "Green Route" dedicated to eco-friendly vehicles and conduct a pilot passenger transport service using Hyundai Motor's hydrogen electric bus, the "ElecCity."

In addition, OOMCO, a distribution affiliate of Oman's state-owned energy group OQ, will operate Hyundai Kefico's 240kW ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers at OOMCO gas stations in the Halban region through its eco-friendly charging infrastructure subsidiary, EVO.

Over the next six months, both parties intend to closely evaluate charging performance and usage demand on-site to lay the groundwork for the full-scale expansion of charging infrastructure.

Using this eco-friendly mobility business in the public transportation sector as a springboard, Hyundai Motor Group plans to gradually expand its reach into the general commercial vehicle and passenger car markets in the future. "I am deeply honored to establish a strategic partnership with Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT)," said Vice President Jeong Ho-keun, Head of Hyundai Motor Group's Future Strategy Division. "Hyundai Motor Group will work together to ensure that Oman's bold vision in the fields of smart cities and future mobility leads to tangible results."
