Hyundai Capital Successfully Issues 350 Billion Won Worth of Green Bonds
Hyundai Capital announced on the 4th that it has successfully issued Korean Won-denominated green bonds worth a total of 350 billion won in line with the K-Taxonomy guidelines.
The green bonds consist of 250 billion won in 3-year bonds and 100 billion won in 5-year bonds, totaling 350 billion won.
NH Investment & Securities and KB Securities served as lead underwriters, while four securities firms—Kiwoom Securities, Korea Investment & Securities, iM Securities, and Mirae Asset Securities—participated as a joint underwriting syndicate.
Notably, these bonds were issued at rates 2 basis points (1 bp = 0.01%p) lower for the 3-year bonds and 1 bp lower for the 5-year bonds compared to the market valuation rate.
Hyundai Capital plans to utilize the funds raised from this green bond issuance primarily to strengthen financial support for eco-friendly vehicles, such as electric and hydrogen cars. Hyundai Capital, which has been rapidly increasing the proportion of green assets within its auto installment portfolio in line with Hyundai Motor Group’s eco-friendly mobility strategy, plans to contribute to expanding the supply of eco-friendly vehicles and reducing carbon emissions through this fundraising.
Furthermore, the company envisions further solidifying a virtuous cycle of ESG finance that drives the continuous issuance of green bonds in the future, based on its accumulated eco-friendly assets.
Meanwhile, "K-Taxonomy," introduced by the government in 2022, is a Korean-style green finance classification system that presents clear principles and standards for corporate eco-friendly activities. With this issuance, Hyundai Capital’s cumulative domestic and international ESG bond issuance volume has reached 10.8 trillion won, continuing its exemplary trajectory in ESG management. Lee Young-seok, CFO of Hyundai Capital, stated, “As the number of customers purchasing eco-friendly vehicles, including electric cars, increases, the proportion of green assets within Hyundai Capital’s total automotive finance assets is also steadily rising.” He added, “Hyundai Capital will continue to actively expand sustainable eco-friendly financial products and services to practice ESG management.”
