【브레이크뉴스 청도군】진예솔 기자=청도군이 ‘2026 경상북도 씨름왕선발대회’에서 종합우승을 차지하며 경북 씨름 강호로서의 위상을 다시 한번 입증했다.
경상북도씨름협회가 주최하고 청도군체육회와 청도군씨름협회가 주관한 이번 대회는 지난달 29일부터 30일까지 이틀간 청도국민체육센터에서 열렸다. 대회에는 경북 16개 시·군에서 모인 대표 선수 500여 명이 참가해 단체전과 개인전에서 실력을 겨뤘다.
종합 순위에서는 청도군이 정상에 올랐고, 2위는 안동시, 3위는 포항시가 차지했다. 모범선수단상은 울진군에게 돌아갔다.
개인전에서는 초등부 최강산(영주시), 중등부 류재원(영주시), 고등부 이재욱(구미시), 대학부 김태우(안동시), 청년부 박지원(청도군), 중년부 안재영(청도군), 장년부 강석은(경산시)이 각 부문 챔피언에 등극했다.
여자부 역시 열띤 경합 끝에 매화급 신연우(안동시), 국화급 박진주(경산시), 무궁화급 예연정(포항시)이 각각 우승을 차지했다.
각 부문 우승자에게는 오는 11월 경남 고성에서 열리는 ‘대통령배 2026 전국씨름왕선발대회’ 출전권이 주어진다.
박권현 청도군수는 “이번 대회 종합우승은 매우 뜻깊은 성과다. 앞으로도 씨름의 전통을 이어가고, 우수 선수 발굴과 저변 확대를 위해 최선을 다하겠다”며 “청도가 경북 씨름의 중심으로 자리매김할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
한편, 이번 대회는 도내 시·군 대표 선수들이 한자리에 모여 전통 씨름의 진면목을 겨루고 지역 스포츠 활성화를 도모하는 의미 있는 무대가 됐다.

In the individual competitions, Choi Kang-san (Yeongju-si) in the elementary division, Ryu Jae-won (Yeongju-si) in the middle school division, Lee Jae-wook (Gumi-si) in the high school division, Kim Tae-woo (Andong-si) in the university division, Park Ji-won (Cheongdo-gun) in the youth division, Ahn Jae-young (Cheongdo-gun) in the middle-aged division, and Kang Seok-eun (Gyeongsan-si) in the senior division were crowned champions in their respective categories.
In the women's division as well, following fierce competition, Shin Yeon-woo (Andong-si) in the Maehwa class, Park Jin-ju (Gyeongsan-si) in the Gukhwa class, and Ye Yeon-jeong (Pohang-si) in the Mugunghwa class claimed the titles.
The winners in each category will be granted the right to compete in the ‘2026 Presidential Cup National Ssireum Championship,’ which will be held in Goseong, Gyeongnam Province, this coming November. Cheongdo County Governor Park Kwon-hyun stated, “Winning the overall championship in this competition is a very meaningful achievement. We will continue to do our utmost to carry on the tradition of ssireum, discover outstanding athletes, and expand the sport’s base,” adding, “We will strive to establish Cheongdo as the center of Gyeongbuk ssireum.”
Meanwhile, this competition served as a significant stage where representative athletes from cities and counties across the province gathered to showcase the true essence of traditional ssireum and promote the revitalization of local sports.
