People Power Party’s Jang Dong-hyuk and Jeong Jeom-sik Launch All-Out Offensive, Calling Lee Administration’s Cabinet Reshuffle and Judicial Pressure an “Unconstitutional Reckless Runaway”

- Jang Dong-hyuk: “Refusal to Nominate Supreme Court Justices Undermines Judicial Independence… Police Reform Must Be Pushed First”

- Jeong Jeom-sik: “‘Left-wing Coalition Cabinet Reshuffle’ Ignores Public Welfare… Victory in the Struggle Against the Ruling Party Through Parliamentary Unity”

- People Power Party Leadership Strongly Opposes Second Cabinet Reshuffle, Real Estate Remarks, and Investigation into Jeju Missing Persons

— Break News Senior Reporter/Poet Lee Je-hang

On the 31st, the leadership of the People Power Party, including Party Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk and Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik, launched an all-out offensive, strongly condemning the Lee Jae-myung administration’s announcement of a second cabinet reshuffle and its pressure tactics against the judiciary.

Chairman Jang Dong-hyuk characterized President Lee’s refusal to nominate Supreme Court Justices and his remarks on real estate as the plundering of public property and the destruction of the separation of powers. Pointing out the loss of credibility in the police investigation revealed in the Jeju missing persons case, he urged for police reform rather than the dismantling of the prosecution. Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik criticized the recent cabinet reshuffle as a "reshuffle by a substandard left-wing coalition," warning of a thorough verification process during confirmation hearings and a strong struggle against the ruling party through the defense of judicial independence and parliamentary unity.

Party Leader Jang Dong-hyuk, “Criticism of the Lee Jae-myung Administration’s Manipulation of Real Estate, Security, and the Judiciary”

 Real Estate and Judicial Issues: “Rampage of Plundering Public Property and Undermining Judicial Independence by Recklessly Canceling Trials”

Party Leader Jang Dong-hyuk criticized President Lee Jae-myung’s remarks regarding real estate and the refusal to nominate a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court through Facebook messages and the Supreme Council meeting. Regarding President Lee’s mention of "mass purchasing of houses below a certain standard for public housing ownership," Leader Jang criticized it, stating, "It means the government intends to buy them if they go to auction due to high interest rates and tax bombs," and added, "It is no different from openly declaring that they will take away the people's homes." He further pointed out, citing the audit results on the Moon Jae-in administration's manipulation of real estate statistics, that "the government is once again tampering with statistics to grant a free pass."

Furthermore, Representative Jang condemned President Lee Jae-myung’s refusal to recommend Supreme Court Justices for the Chief Justice position, calling it a "ploy to fill the Supreme Court with judges who would acquit him." Representative Jang pointed out past remarks by Democratic Party figures criticizing the President’s request for re-recommendation as a "violation of the separation of powers" and a "destruction of the Constitution," pointing out that it was "shameful double standards of saying 'it is constitutional when I do it, but unconstitutional when others do it.'" He then urged Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae to "not succumb to the power of the administration, but must firmly reject the unconstitutional demand for re-recommendation to safeguard the independence of the judiciary."

 Jeju Missing Person Case: "Loss of Trust in Police Investigation... Stop Dismantling the Prosecution and Start with Police Reform"

He also sharply criticized the police regarding allegations of insufficient response and a reversal of their investigation into the case of the missing woman in Jeju. Revealing that he personally inspected the scene, Representative Jang raised doubts about the police hastily framing the case as a suicide, citing the circumstances at the time of the body's discovery and the condition of the palm tree branches.

In particular, pointing out that the deputy superintendent in charge had halted the search with lies, he criticized, "As a result of stopping the search with lies and falsely closing the case, the body has decomposed to the point where even the cause of death cannot be determined." He further emphasized, "A full reinvestigation is necessary regarding the deputy superintendent's involvement in the crime and other cases that were falsely closed." Representative Jang raised his voice, stating, "The current police force is not even at a level to reform itself," and added, "In a situation where we cannot entrust the safety and lives of the people, the dismantling of the prosecution must be stopped immediately, and police reform must be pursued first; that is the correct order of things."

 Cabinet Reshuffle and National Defense: "Cabinet Reshuffle Going Against Public Sentiment... Will Stop Defense Manipulation via Military Academy Consolidation"

Representative Jang characterized the cabinet reshuffle announced on August 31 as a "cabinet reshuffle going in the opposite direction of public sentiment, going against the will of the people." Representative Kim Seung-won, nominated as Minister of Justice, was identified as "an appointment intended to go all-in on canceling Representative Lee Jae-myung's trial." Furthermore, the cabinet appointments of the mastermind behind the "real estate tax bomb" and the designer of the "Basic Housing" policy were disparaged as a "declaration to continue pushing through policies that create a 'real estate hell.'"

Attending the "Inauguration Ceremony and Resolution Rally of the National Alliance to Prevent the Closure of Military Academies" held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building that afternoon, Representative Jang solidified his resolve by revealing his background as a former Air Force officer candidate and instructor. Representative Jang warned, "They put forward the strengthening of jointness as a pretext, but their true intention is to weaken the military by talking about a 'military academy coup.'" He cited the model of the military politicization under the Chávez regime in Venezuela as an example. Additionally, citing public opinion poll results and signature campaigns by civic groups, he declared, "The People Power Party will stand with the people to strongly block the push for the closure of military academies and safeguard the security of the Republic of Korea."

Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik, “Condemning the ruling party’s pressure on the judiciary and emphasizing party unity”

 Criticism of pressure on the judiciary, “Demand for re-recommendation of Supreme Court Justice is unconstitutional… Stop destroying the separation of powers”

Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik criticized the pressure exerted by the Democratic Party and the Blue House on Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae and the judiciary at the Supreme Council meeting. Citing Article 104, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution, Floor Leader Jeong stated, “It is not a choice but a constitutional duty for the President to forward a recommendation to the National Assembly once the Chief Justice makes a recommendation,” and pointed out that the President’s refusal to make the recommendation and the ruling party’s demand for re-recommendation are, in themselves, unconstitutional and a destruction of the separation of powers.

Furthermore, regarding the Democratic Party’s mention of the “next step” and hinting at the possibility of impeachment if Chief Justice Cho does not attend the Judiciary Committee meeting, he warned, “The President’s refusal to make the recommendation is the real grounds for impeachment,” adding, “Try it if you dare; the Democratic Party will bear all political and legal responsibility.” Floor Leader Chung expressed condolences to Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, who suffered the tragic loss of his father on the same day, and urged him to "protect the independence of the judiciary with unwavering resolve." At the same time, he called on the judiciary to "immediately resume stalled trials, including the case involving President Lee Jae-myung's violation of the Public Official Election Act."

 Cabinet Reshuffle and State Affairs Assessment: "Left-wing coalition reshuffle ignoring public livelihoods... Sharp scrutiny foreshadowed"

Floor Leader Chung defined the government's significant cabinet reshuffle as a "substandard left-wing coalition reshuffle that completely rejects the public's demands for reform in state affairs." He took issue with the fact that key figures such as Policy Chief Kim Yong-bum and the Minister of Unification were retained without any personnel overhaul regarding stock and real estate instability or the damage to the ROK-US alliance, while figures from Gyeonggi Province and those associated with pro-government satellite parties were placed at the forefront. He criticized the reshuffle, stating, "This cabinet reshuffle is not about reviving the people's livelihoods, but about 'saving Lee Jae-myung' and is a power-sharing appointment intended to solidify factional unity," adding that it is repeating the Moon Jae-in administration's failure in creating divisions. Floor Leader Chung announced a policy to thoroughly verify the candidates' qualifications and policies through National Assembly confirmation hearings.

 Visit to MB: "Must fight with the people in mind... Victory in the struggle against the ruling party through parliamentary unity"

On the afternoon of the same day, Floor Leader Chung visited the Cheonggye Foundation in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to pay a courtesy call on former President Lee Myung-bak and sought advice on current state affairs and the direction of party operations. Former President Lee urged, "Right now, the role of the parliament is much greater than that of the party," adding, "Although we are at a numerical disadvantage, we must fight with the people in mind, and gaining the trust and support of the people is the top priority." He also reportedly expressed concern regarding the news of the cabinet reshuffle, including the nomination of Justice Minister candidate Kim Seung-won, saying, "I can see right through it."

Floor Leader Chung met with reporters after the meeting and expressed his determination, stating, "Former President Lee emphasized that it is of the utmost importance for the party to unite and win the 2028 general election." He added, "I will take to heart his admonition to resolutely resist the tyranny of the Lee Jae-myung administration, even as a minority opposition party, and I will devote my full efforts to legislative activities focused on the people and to parliamentary integration."

Remarks by Supreme Council Members at the Supreme Council Meeting

 Supreme Council Member Shin Dong-wook (Criticism of Cabinet Reshuffle and Thorough Verification of Confirmation Hearings)

First, Supreme Council Member Shin Dong-wook opened fire by expressing deep regret over the government's recent announcement of a cabinet reshuffle. Shin pointed out, "It was a cabinet reshuffle that should have naturally taken place given that the President's approval rating has dropped to the 30% range, yet the name of Policy Chief Kim Yong-bum was never mentioned." He further noted, "A farce unfolded where Minister of Strategy and Finance Koo Yun-chul, who was dismissed instead of Chief Kim, turned back upon hearing the news while waiting at the airport to depart for the G20 summit."

He continued by criticizing the reshuffle, stating, “This reshuffle is a ‘reshuffle that disregards and betrays the people,’ excluding Chief of Staff Kim Yong-bum, who bears the greatest responsibility for the chaos in state affairs, and placing the Gyeonggi Province line at the forefront.” He added, “Minister-designate Yong Hye-in, who served two terms as a proportional representative under the banner of the Basic Income Party yet refuses to relinquish her parliamentary seat, is the epitome of a ‘reshuffle for sharing power’ steeped in a sense of entitlement.”

He further asserted, “The appointment of Justice Minister-designate Kim Seung-won is nothing more and nothing less than a ‘criminal-planned reshuffle’ intended to push through the President’s withdrawal of charges.” He asserted, “We can never accept a cabinet filled with unqualified individuals such as Jeong Seong-ho, Kim Yun-duk, and Ahn Gyu-baek, and we will thoroughly vet them through confirmation hearings.”

 Supreme Council Member Kim Min-su (Concerns regarding infringement of separation of powers, reshuffle, and Jeju security)

Supreme Council Member Kim Min-su focused his criticism on President Lee Jae-myung’s demand for re-recommendations for Supreme Court Justices and the inappropriateness of the cabinet appointments. Supreme Council Member Kim Min-soo sharply criticized the move, stating, “President Lee Jae-myung’s rejection of the Supreme Court Justice recommended by Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae and his demand for a re-recommendation is a thorough violation of the spirit of the separation of powers guaranteed by the Constitution,” adding, “There is no authority anywhere to demand a re-recommendation of a Supreme Court Justice from the President.”

Furthermore, regarding the cabinet reshuffle, he criticized the appointment of Representative Kim Seung-won, who has advocated for the withdrawal of charges against President Lee Jae-myung, as Minister of Justice, stating, “Appointing Representative Kim Seung-won, who has been arguing for the withdrawal of charges against President Lee, is no different from hiring a personal lawyer.” He added, “Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family Yong Hye-in is also displaying arrogance by insisting on maintaining her position as a proportional representative lawmaker, and the comprehensive anti-discrimination law she has championed will dismantle institutional standards regarding gender and family.”

Regarding public safety issues in Jeju Island, he urged, “Jeju Governor Wi Seong-gon’s remarks regarding recent missing person and murder cases, stating that ‘it is safe to travel in groups,’ are inappropriate.” He called on the police and political circles to restore trust so that Jeju can be returned to being a beautiful island free of gates and thieves.

 Supreme Council Member Yang Hyang-ja (Criticism of the Ruling Party’s Expansion of Internal and External Support and State Administration)

Supreme Council Member Yang Hyang-ja strongly condemned the ruling leadership’s perception of state affairs and the results of the cabinet reshuffle. She pointed out, “Last week’s war of words between Democratic Party Chairman Kim Min-suk and former Chairman Chung Cheong-rae regarding expanding the moderate base was an example showing just how far removed the Democratic Party is from public sentiment.” She added, “The ruling power, surrounded by an extreme support base and unable to exercise self-objectivity, is conducting state administration that is incomprehensible to the general public.”

She further emphasized, “If Chairman Kim Min-suk truly desires to expand the party’s base, she must cease unconstitutional demands such as the impeachment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court or the withdrawal of charges against the President, and instead demand the dismissal of Chief of Staff Kim Yong-bum, who is responsible for the failure of state affairs and spouts sophistry centered on distribution.”

She then warned, “Approval ratings cannot rebound with shallow calculations of dividing ministerial positions through the realignment of factions such as the pro-Lee Myung, pro-Moon, and pro-Cho Kuk camps,” adding, “Even now, they must realize the rational will of the people regarding the change of administration, which entails a shift in policies concerning the times, politics, industry, labor, and youth.”

 Supreme Council Member Kim Jae-won (Verification of Cabinet Reshuffle Nominees and Criticism of Ruling Party Leadership Appointments)

Supreme Council Member Kim Jae-won foreshadowed a comprehensive vetting process, citing the past actions of cabinet nominees and ruling party figures. Kim stated, “The appointment of Rep. Kim Seung-won as the successor to Minister Jeong Seong-ho is an intention to turn the Ministry of Justice into a department dedicated to erasing the guilt of defendant Lee Jae-myung and into a ‘group for withdrawing indictments.’” He urged, “Defense Minister nominee Ahn Gyu-baek must immediately disclose his military service certificate to clarify the controversy surrounding his military service.” He went on to point out, “It is also unacceptable that Chief of Staff Kim Yong-bum, who threw the domestic stock market into turmoil by introducing single-stock leverage ETFs, was retained.”

Furthermore, regarding the nominee Yong Hye-in, he criticized her, stating, “She must clearly explain the suspicion that the reason she is breaking the custom of resigning as a proportional representative is related to the receipt of government subsidies by the Basic Income Party, where her husband serves as a full-time party official.”

Additionally, referring to Representative Kim Min-seok’s personnel moves, he raised his voice, declaring, “The appointment of Mr. Kang Shin-seong, who was involved in a past illegal political funding case, as a special advisor is inappropriate, and we will thoroughly scrutinize him through the confirmation hearing.”

 Woo Jae-jun, Supreme Council Member for Youth (Evaluation of Youth Affairs and Criticism of the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Nominee)

Woo Jae-jun, Supreme Council Member for Youth, strongly criticized the Lee Jae-myung administration’s attitude toward state affairs and its policies regarding youth and women. Woo Jae-jun, the Supreme Youth Committee Member, pointed out, “Despite the death of a civil servant in his 30s at the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment last July due to excessive workload and workplace harassment, the President has not said a single word for over a month.” He added, “Before boasting about the statistical decrease in suicides as an achievement, he must reflect on whether there are any deaths for which he himself is responsible.”

Regarding the cabinet reshuffle, he further noted, “Despite the youth employment rate being at a disastrous level, the Minister of Labor and Chief of Staff Kim Yong-bum, who caused losses to the asset market, have been retained.” In particular, regarding Yong Hye-in, the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, he stated, “She is a figure who spearheaded gender polarization and malicious feminism in the past, and has been criticized for using VIP rooms during private travels.” He continued, “As an appointment riddled with privilege and flattery, she is completely unsuitable to serve as the Minister of Gender Equality and Family, who should represent the vulnerable, so we will thoroughly scrutinize her during the confirmation hearing.”

 Supreme Council Member Cho Kwang-han (Urging Internal Unity within the Opposition and Setting a Target for the Struggle Against the Ruling Party)

Supreme Council Member Cho Kwang-han presented the strategic direction the party should take, citing the 1992 U.S. presidential election as an example. Cho began by stating, “Just as the Bill Clinton campaign won by accurately targeting the administration’s weaknesses with the slogan ‘It’s the economy, stupid,’ we too must set a clear target.”

Cho pointed out, “An absurd situation continues where the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party are ruining every sector of the nation, including the economy, diplomacy and national defense, and the judicial system.” He added, “At this critical moment when public sentiment is turning away due to the opponent’s fatal mistakes, we must reflect on whether we are aiming at an accurate target.”

He went on to strongly urge, “The target we must fight is not our internal comrades, but their incompetence and self-righteousness,” adding, “Only by halting internal conflicts and concentrating our firepower on their mismanagement can we regain lost public trust and lay the foundation for victory.”

 Policy Committee Chair Lim I-ja (Investigation into Inadequate Verification of National Assembly Complaints and Proposal for Cooperation in the Regular Session)

Finally, Policy Committee Chair Lim I-ja pointed out the opposition party’s inadequate measures regarding legal administration and proposed consultations on livelihood policies for the regular session. Chair Lim stated, “The citation of a Labor Standards Act precedent unrelated to the refusal to take an oath in Prosecutor Park Sang-yong’s complaint is an incident that undermines the authority of the National Assembly and the rule of law,” and demanded, “Judiciary Committee Chair Seo Young-kyo and Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won must clearly disclose to the public the circumstances surrounding the drafting and approval of the complaint.” She then emphasized regarding the government's youth budget plan, "Instead of splitting up massive finances into cash handouts, we must create an ecosystem where companies can generate good jobs through bold deregulation and labor reform."

Furthermore, regarding the regular session of the National Assembly starting tomorrow, she urged the Democratic Party for forward-looking cooperation, stating, "Through a meeting between the policy chairmen of both parties, I propose three major principles: ▲ prioritizing and swiftly processing common legislation for the people's livelihoods, ▲ deliberation and compromise on contentious bills, and ▲ boldly supplementing bills where side effects have been identified."

Statements and announcements by People Power Party committees, special committees, spokespersons, etc.

 Supreme Council Member Cho Kwang-han (Current issues regarding the reorganization and election method of People Power Party district committee chairpersons)

People Power Party Supreme Council Member Cho Kwang-han held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Center on the morning of the 31st to explain the plan for reforming the election method of district committee chairpersons. Regarding the election method, Supreme Council Member Cho stated that they have decided to adopt a gradual and rational approach instead of an unreasonable, full-scale implementation. He stated that this policy was discussed without significant dissent at the party's Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on this day.

Supreme Council Member Cho explained that while they initially considered a plan to fully implement a vote of responsible party members across all 254 party chapters, they devised a compromise for phased implementation after broadly gathering opinions from lawmakers following the workshop. Cho remarked, "The floor leadership prepared a compromise that reduces the burden on the Supreme Council by reflecting the opinions gathered at the general assembly of lawmakers," adding, "This is a decision by Representative Jang Dong-hyuk to relinquish his vested interests."

The first phase of reorganization targets 37 chapters, including 34 chapters with issues and 3 with suspended membership rights, plus the constituency of Rep. Yoon Han-hong, whose duties have been suspended, totaling "37+1" chapters. Supreme Council Member Cho stated regarding the case of Rep. Yoon Han-hong, “It is a conditional matter that can only be finalized after the Party Ethics Committee separately votes on whether to lift the suspension of duties, following criticism that it has a nature of political retaliation,” adding, “That is why it was expressed as ‘37+1.’” He added that Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik raised an objection during the meeting but accepted it after hearing the explanation.

Furthermore, in accordance with party regulations, the 216 district chapters with remaining terms will undergo the re-election process for their chairpersons by September 15 using the existing Steering Committee method. Subsequently, the People Power Party plans to conduct party affairs audits and sequentially expand the application of the responsible party member voting method to underperforming district chapters. Regarding criticism from some within the party that the "party leadership faction" has been pushed aside by the vested interests of the Yeongnam region, Supreme Council Member Cho argued, “It is unreasonable to view it that way, as we approached the issue flexibly while considering realistic conditions and maintaining the value of direct election by responsible party members.”

 Secretary General Jeong Hee-yong (Current Issues at the Completion Ceremony of the 3rd University/Graduate Student Legislative Assistant Program)

Jeong Hee-yong, Secretary General of the People Power Party, attended the "Completion Ceremony of the 3rd People Power Party University/Graduate Student Legislative Assistant Program," held at 3 p.m. on the 31st at the Multipurpose Hall of the Central Party Headquarters. During the ceremony, he encouraged the young legislative assistants for their achievements and pledged continued support. Secretary General Jeong conveyed his congratulations to the 16 legislative assistants who completed the program and emphasized the importance of fostering young talent.

In his opening remarks, Secretary General Jeong said, "I hope you achieved meaningful results through your one month of legislative assistant activities," and urged the young people to "take on challenges with confidence and play a shining role in our society." Woo Jae-jun, the Supreme Youth Committee Member who was also present, added his congratulations, saying, "You have worked hard for the past month," and "I hope you will be reborn as valuable talents needed by society based on the experiences you gained together in the field."

In addition to key party officials, many graduates from the first and second cohorts, including Son Myung-hoon, Chairman of the Central Party University Student Committee, and Kim Jae-in, a member of the Seoul Nowon-gu Council, attended the event to congratulate their juniors on completing the program. The People Power Party’s Legislative Assistant Program is a representative initiative for fostering youth political talent, designed to allow young people to directly experience legislation and legislative activities in the offices of National Assembly members.

Secretary General Chung stated that the party would continue to develop the program to expand opportunities for youth participation in the legislature. An official from the People Power Party’s Youth Bureau added, “We have operated the program for three cohorts, providing practical legislative experience and achieving results that lead to employment in lawmakers’ offices after completion,” and “We plan to continue actively supporting young people so that they can gain direct experience in the political field.”

 Park Sung-hoon, Senior Spokesperson (Criticism of Lee Jae-myung Administration’s 2nd Cabinet Reshuffle)

In a commentary released on the 31st, Park Sung-hoon, Senior Spokesperson for the People Power Party, characterized the Lee Jae-myung administration’s second cabinet reshuffle as an “arrogant and self-righteous ‘my way’ reshuffle” and urged its immediate withdrawal. Chief Spokesperson Park pointed out, “Despite the public’s demands for reform in state affairs, this is a total personnel disaster characterized by consistent ‘judicial shielding’ and the revolving door of close associates, without any self-reflection or policy shift.”

Chief Spokesperson Park criticized, “They have merely put up a new signboard of ‘reform in state affairs,’ but what has filled it is nothing but the President’s judicial shielding and the revolving door of close associates,” adding that it is “not a reform cabinet reshuffle, but a feast of shielding, rewards, and revolving door positions.” Pointing specifically to the nomination of Representative Kim Seung-won as the candidate for Minister of Justice, he warned, “Nominating a figure who advocated for the withdrawal of indictments in the President’s case is a declaration to complete ‘judicial shielding’ as a national system.”

He then continued his strong criticism regarding personnel appointments in the economic and real estate sectors as well. Referring to Vice Minister Lee Hyung-il, nominated as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and Vice Minister Hong Ji-sun, the nominee for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Chief Spokesperson Park remarked, “Higher positions have been given to those responsible for the skyrocketing real estate prices and economic failure,” adding, “It is akin to appointing the person who started the fire as the fire chief and putting the steering wheel back in the hands of the person who caused the accident.”

Furthermore, regarding the nomination of Yong Hye-in as Minister of Gender Equality and Family, he demanded the withdrawal of the nomination, describing her as “a figure who has enjoyed special privileges and prerogatives, and who spearheaded the abolition of the prosecution’s supplementary investigative powers.” Chief Spokesperson Park raised his voice, stating, “The People Power Party will thoroughly uncover the candidates’ qualifications, morality, and responsibility for policy failures during the National Assembly’s personnel vetting process,” and declared, “We will strongly block the reckless runaway state affairs aimed at shielding the President personally.”

 Senior Spokesperson Park Sung-hoon (Criticism of the Democratic Party’s Launch of the Police Reform Task Force)

In a commentary, Park Sung-hoon, Senior Spokesperson for the People Power Party, pointed out the suspicions of police cover-up revealed in the Jeju disappearance case and criticized the Democratic Party’s launch of the 'Police Reform Task Force' as a political show intended to evade responsibility. Spokesperson Park pointed out the contradiction in the Democratic Party, which has neutralized the checks and balances of the criminal justice system, now talking about police reform.

Spokesperson Park stated, "Police cover-ups and false conclusions are tragedies that occur when the checks and balances of the judicial system collapse," and criticized the Democratic Party, saying, "The Democratic Party's attempt to fix the barn after the horse has bolted is egregious hypocrisy." Furthermore, he argued, "The very party responsible for creating the structure of unchecked police dominance is the Democratic Party, which neutralized the prosecution's supplementary investigative authority."

He then expressed concern regarding the direction of the police reform that the Democratic Party intends to pursue. Chief Spokesperson Park pointed out, “The essence of the police reform advocated by the Democratic Party is a dangerous idea to bring the massive power of the police under their control,” adding, “Far from apologizing for the disastrous consequences of the judicial reform they pushed through, they are solely preoccupied with evading responsibility.”

Chief Spokesperson Park urged the Democratic Party to stop its daily political attacks. He argued, “If the Democratic Party truly desires public safety, they must apologize for the deformed and detrimental reform of the criminal justice system,” and asserted, “They must immediately cooperate with the re-amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act to restore checks and balances among investigative agencies.”

 Spokesperson Ham In-kyung (Criticism of the Lee Jae-myung Administration’s Second Cabinet Reshuffle)

People Power Party Spokesperson Ham In-kyung issued a commentary characterizing the Lee Jae-myung administration’s second cabinet reshuffle as “an appointment born of stubborn defiance against public sentiment” and urged a shift in the direction of state administration. Spokesperson Ham pointed out that the government has ignored public demand for reform, despite warning signs ringing across all aspects of state affairs, including the people's livelihood economy, real estate, and the stock market.

"With the President's approval rating plummeting and concerns emerging even within the ruling party, the public expected a shift in the direction of state affairs," Spokesperson Ham stated. "However, what returned was not reform, but only despair." Pointing specifically at the promotion of incumbent vice ministers to ministerial positions, she criticized, "Hong Ji-sun, the nominee for Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is an individual who previously handled the practical implementation of real estate policies, such as the Basic Housing project; far from holding her accountable for failed policies, the government responded with a promotion."

She also delivered a stern warning regarding the nomination of the Minister of Justice candidate. Spokesperson Ham asserted, "Nominee Kim Seung-won is the co-representative of 'Gongchwimo,' who has publicly advocated for the withdrawal of indictments in the President's case," adding, "Nominating a person capable of pushing for the withdrawal of indictments as the head of the legal administration is an act of ignoring public sentiment."

Spokesperson Ham asserted that there was absolutely no inspiration or self-reflection in this cabinet reshuffle. She stated, “What the people demanded was not a cabinet reshuffle that clings to failed policies, but a genuine change in state administration,” adding, “One must bear in mind that a reshuffle that ignores public sentiment cannot restore plummeted trust.”

 Spokesperson Cho Yong-sul (Criticism of President Lee Jae-myung’s remarks on real estate)

In a commentary on the 31st, People Power Party Spokesperson Cho Yong-sul criticized President Lee Jae-myung for citing loan delinquencies and a surge in foreclosures on social media as grounds for predicting a housing price crash. Spokesperson Cho pointed out that the President’s attitude, which seemed to welcome the increase in household debt and foreclosures, turned a blind eye to the suffering of ordinary citizens.

Spokesperson Cho criticized, “There are countless ordinary people who have endured high loans to secure their own homes,” adding, “I am simply dumbfounded by the sight of the President performing a ritual, citing loan delinquencies and the increase in foreclosure properties as evidence for a housing price crash.” He further pointed out, “How is this different from cursing citizens who bought homes with loans, rather than being cash-rich, to go bankrupt?”

He also took issue with the lack of an apology regarding the government's failure in real estate policy. Spokesperson Cho argued, "Is waiting for a surge in auctions now, after having fueled market instability with various regulations, really a real estate measure?" He asserted, "The real estate market must not be shaken by political calculations, and the suffering of the people must not be packaged as a policy success."

Spokesperson Cho reiterated the President's responsibilities. He stated, "What the President must do is not wait for the people's homes to go to auction, but create a housing environment that ordinary people can afford," and urged, "Even now, the President must reflect on the policies that have exacerbated the people's housing insecurity."

 Spokesperson Cho Yong-sul (Criticism of Yong Hye-in, Nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, Holding a Dual Position)

In a commentary on the 31st, People Power Party Spokesperson Cho Yong-sul strongly criticized the stance of Basic Income Party Representative Yong Hye-in, who was nominated as the Minister of Gender Equality and Family, for intending to hold the dual position without resigning from her parliamentary seat, labeling it as "the greed of vested interests." Spokesperson Cho urged her to immediately stop the behavior of disregarding established practice and attempting to enjoy both privileges. Spokesperson Cho explained, “It has been a long-standing political custom for a proportional representation lawmaker appointed as a minister to resign and have the position succeeded by the next candidate on the list,” adding, “This is a common-sense choice intended to allow for the devotion to state affairs while simultaneously giving opportunities to other talented individuals within the party.”

He then raised the level of criticism by mentioning Candidate Yong’s history of changing party affiliations. Spokesperson Cho sarcastically remarked, “The very person who was elected through a Democratic Party-led satellite party and maintained his parliamentary seat through a controversy over a deceptive change of party affiliation is now trying to cling to his position until the very end,” asking, “Is this the ‘politics representing the weak’ that Candidate Yong and the Basic Income Party have been talking about?”

Spokesperson Cho demanded a decision regarding the dual role. He urged, “If the ministerial position is important, you must step down from your parliamentary seat; if you want to keep your parliamentary seat, you must give up the ministerial position,” and demanded, “Immediately abandon this greedy politics of trying to enjoy privileges while holding a cake in both hands, and relinquish your vested interests first.”      hang5247@hanmail.net
