인천시에 따르면, 그동안 공원이나 교차로 등에 공식 지명이 부여되더라도 민간 내비게이션과 지도 서비스에 제때 반영되지 않아 시민들이 길을 찾거나 시설을 이용하는 데 불편을 겪는 사례가 종종 발생해 왔다.
이에 인천시는 지난 6월부터 네이버, 카카오, 티맵 등 시민들이 주로 이용하는 주요 민간 지도 플랫폼을 대상으로 공원·교차로 등 492개 지명의 반영 여부를 대조하는 집중 모니터링을 진행했다.
점검 결과 누락되거나 실제 현황과 다른 지명정보에 대해서는 지도 운영사에 신속한 현행화를 요청했다.
현재 공사 중이거나 도로 형태 변경 등으로 표기가 어려운 일부 지명을 제외하고 정비를 추진하여 당초 40%대에 머물렀던 지명 반영률은 92%까지 대폭 상승했다.
