[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 사천시가 고령인구 증가에 대응해 체육과 건강관리, 복지·교육·여가 기능을 한곳에 갖춘 시니어 복합공간 조성에 나선다.
사천시는 사천읍 수석리 옛 동성초등학교 폐교부지에 ‘시니어친화형 국민체육센터’와 ‘동부노인문화복지센터’를 함께 건립하는 복합화 사업을 추진하고 있다고 밝혔다.
총사업비는 국비 30억원과 도비 7억5,000만원, 시비 222억5,000만원 등 260억원이다. 시설은 지하 1층~지상 3층, 전체 연면적 4,990㎡ 규모의 2개 동으로 조성되며 2028년 6월 준공이 목표다.
시니어친화형 국민체육센터에는 시니어헬스장과 건강측정·운동처방실, 인지케어실 등이 들어선다. 3층에는 스크린파크골프연습장과 탁구장, 당구장, GX룸 등이 마련돼 운동과 건강관리를 연계한 프로그램을 운영할 계획이다.
동부노인문화복지센터에는 강의실과 다용도실, 에어로빅실, 노래교실, 커뮤니티홀, 식당 등이 들어선다. 두 시설은 연결다리로 이어져 체육활동부터 건강관리, 교육과 여가, 커뮤니티 활동까지 한 공간에서 이용할 수 있도록 설계된다.
사천시의 고령인구는 2만9,975명으로 전체 인구의 26.77%를 차지한다. 시는 그동안 부족했던 시니어 전용 공공체육시설을 확충해 고령층의 신체활동과 건강관리를 지원하는 거점으로 활용한다는 계획이다.
세대 간 이용도 고려했다. 주간에는 시니어 중심 프로그램을 운영하고 야간과 주말에는 가족체육 및 청소년 프로그램을 운영해 시설 활용도를 높일 예정이다.
