한국장학재단은 2026학년도 2학기 국가장학금 1차 신청 마감이 일주일 앞으로 다가왔다며 아직 신청하지 않은 학생들은 기한 내 신청을 완료해야 한다고 밝혔다.
국가장학금은 대학생의 등록금 부담을 줄이기 위해 마련된 대표적인 소득연계형 장학제도로, 소득과 재산 수준, 성적 기준 등을 충족하는 학생에게 국가가 등록금 일부 또는 전액을 지원한다.
신청 대상은 재학생을 비롯해 신입생, 편입생, 재입학생, 복학생 등 모든 대학생이며, 한국장학재단 누리집과 모바일 애플리케이션을 통해 24시간 신청할 수 있다. 국가장학금 신청 시 Ⅰ유형과 Ⅱ유형, 다자녀 장학금이 함께 접수된다.
재학생의 경우 원칙적으로 1차 신청 기간에 접수해야 하며, 재학 중 두 차례에 한해 2차 신청으로도 장학금 수혜가 가능하다.
학자금 지원구간은 학생 본인과 가구원의 소득 및 재산 수준 등을 종합적으로 반영해 산정되며, 결과 확인까지는 통상 8주 정도가 소요된다.
올해 국가장학금 지원 규모는 지난해 인상된 수준을 유지한다. 기초생활수급자와 차상위계층 학생, 다자녀 가구 셋째 이상 대학생 가운데 학자금 지원구간 8구간 이하에 해당하는 경우 등록금 전액을 지원받을 수 있다.
또한 일반 국가장학금의 경우 학자금 지원구간에 따라 연간 최대 600만 원에서 100만 원까지 차등 지원되며, 다자녀 가구 학생에게는 보다 확대된 지원금이 제공된다.
교육부와 한국장학재단은 제도 개선도 추진한다. 현재 10단계로 운영되는 학자금 지원구간 체계를 2027학년도 1학기부터 5개 구간 체계로 개편할 예정이다.
기존에는 기초·차상위 계층과 1~10구간으로 세분화해 운영했으나, 향후에는 ‘가·나·다·라·마’ 등 5개 구간 체계로 단순화해 수혜자들의 이해도를 높이고 제도 운영의 효율성을 강화한다는 계획이다.
재단은 올해부터 홈페이지와 통지서, 알림톡 등을 통해 변경 내용을 사전 안내해 학생들의 혼선을 최소화할 방침이다.
박창달 한국장학재단 이사장은 “국가장학금 신청 마감이 임박한 만큼 아직 접수하지 못한 학생들은 서둘러 신청해 장학금 혜택을 놓치지 않길 바란다”고 말했다.
