Daewoo E&C Takes the Lead in Spreading a Culture of Win-Win Cooperation and Fair Trade in the Construction Industry
Daewoo E&C has embarked on a full-scale initiative to improve unfair practices in the construction industry and build a sustainable ecosystem for shared growth with its partner companies.
Daewoo E&C announced on the 11th that it signed the "Agreement on Win-Win Cooperation and Fair Trade in the Construction Industry" with the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) and the Korea Association of Specialized Construction Contractors (KASC) on the 28th of last month. This agreement was established to solidify a public-private cooperation framework aimed at establishing fair order in prime-subcontracting transactions and protecting the rights and interests of subcontractors.
The core of this agreement is the smooth payment of invoices and the stabilization of subcontractor management. Daewoo E&C plans to actively pursue improvements in payment processes, innovation in transaction practices, and the establishment of institutional foundations in collaboration with the FTC and other entities.
Daewoo E&C has already proactively implemented a significant portion of these measures prior to this agreement and intends to continue demonstrating leadership to ensure a fair trade culture takes root in the field.
Daewoo E&C will also expand practical support programs to alleviate financial difficulties and strengthen the capabilities of its partner companies. In particular, the company plans to significantly alleviate the financial burden on partner companies by expanding the "Shared Growth Fund," which has been in operation since 2012, to a total of 14 billion won this year. Through contributions to the mutual cooperation fund, the company is providing multifaceted support for improving the welfare of partner companies, as well as ESG management consulting and evaluation.
In addition to directly supporting the labor costs of safety specialists and safety consulting fees for partner companies, the company further strengthened its safety-centric cooperation structure by announcing plans to introduce a "Safety Rating System" at this year's "Shared Growth Meeting with Excellent Partner Companies." This system grants additional bidding points to partner companies with superior safety management capabilities.
A Daewoo E&C official stated, "This agreement is a meaningful effort to spread a culture of fair trade within the construction industry and to ensure the successful implementation of the subcontracting payment linkage system on construction sites." The official added, "We will continue to expand practical mutual cooperation activities, such as operating the Shared Growth Fund and providing safety and health support, to take the lead in creating a construction industry ecosystem that grows together with our partner companies."
