Gimhae Library, 41 Years Old, Reborn as a ‘Future-Oriented Cultural Space Embracing Gaya’

Completed of 1 Year and 4 Months of Remodeling… Reopened as a Complex Cultural Hub Combining Reading, Exhibitions, and Performances

Gimhae Library has reopened as a future-oriented complex reading and cultural space incorporating Gaya history and culture.

The Gimhae Library of the Gyeongnam Office of Education held a reopening ceremony on the 10th after completing 1 year and 4 months of environmental improvement work. Marking its 41st anniversary, Gimhae Library has transformed beyond simple facility upgrades into a representative regional cultural hub where reading, culture, and relaxation harmonize.

The library reconfigured its space by reinterpreting Gaya's historical and cultural symbols in a modern way, completing its renovation as a humanities space where citizens can enjoy books, art, and communication together.

The reopening ceremony proceeded in the order of a fusion Korean traditional music performance, a progress report, the presentation of a plaque of appreciation to sculptor Kim Young-won for his contribution to the space's creation, and a special performance. This was followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a facility tour at the outdoor reading area.

To commemorate its reopening, Gimhae Library is operating a total of 40 programs, including hands-on activities, humanities lectures, author invitation events, performances, and exhibitions. In particular, the "Reading Night" program, held in the outdoor reading space until the 13th, is set to present the library as a unique reading culture space for early summer nights.

Park Jong-hoon, Superintendent of Education for Gyeongnam, stated, "Gimhae Library has been reborn as a futuristic complex reading culture space where the history of Gaya blends with modern sensibilities," adding, "I look forward to it serving as a cultural hub for the local community where learning, art, and relaxation coexist."

This reopening holds added significance in that the region's representative public library has evolved beyond a mere space for reading into a complex platform where culture, education, and civic exchange take place.
