시민연대는 9일 공식 입장문을 발표하고 "민주주의의 성지이자 민주당의 심장인 광주·전남에서 부정경선 의혹이 짙게 드리웠음에도 정청래 당대표와 지도부는 무능과 무책임으로 일관하며 이를 방치하고 있다"고 포문을 열었다.
특히 이들은 최근 국회에서 발생한 중앙선거관리위원회의 투표용지 부족 사태를 대하는 민주당의 태도를 언급하며 날을 세웠다. 시민연대는 "현재 민주당 지도부는 선관위를 향해 ‘표심 왜곡’이라며 특검과 국정조사까지 거론하고 있다"면서 "밖을 향해서는 엄격한 기준을 들이대는 지도부가 정작 내부를 갉아먹는 전남광주특별시장 경선 부정 의혹 앞에서는 눈을 감고 귀를 막고 있다"고 강력히 규탄했다.
이어 이러한 행태를 명백한 ‘이중잣대’이자 ‘내로남불’로 규정하며, "남의 허물에는 국정조사로 맞서면서 집안의 오물은 덮고 가겠다는 태도는 공당의 수장으로서 보일 수 없는 무능의 극치"라고 지적했다. 또한 "중앙당의 논리대로라면 호남 시민의 눈과 귀를 가린 경선 부정 의혹 역시 국정조사와 특검 감으로 다루어야 마땅하다"고 주장했다.

이와 함께 시민연대는 이날 광주광역시 당국에 ‘신세계 복합쇼핑몰 신축공사 중지 긴급 행정명령 청원서’를 공식 제출했다. 최근 신세계그룹과 스타벅스가 전개한 '5·18 탱크데이' 및 '책상에 탁!' 마케팅을 광주와 부산, 전국의 민주 시민들을 향한 반인륜적 폭거로 규정했기 때문이다.
