[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 경남교육청이 원도심 학교의 유휴 공간을 활용한 거점형 돌봄센터 ‘늘봄진주’를 개관하고 지역 맞춤형 돌봄체계 구축에 나섰다.
경상남도교육청은 9일 진주 동진초등학교에서 박종훈 교육감과 교육 관계자, 학부모 등 170여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘늘봄진주’ 개관식을 개최했다.
늘봄진주는 학령인구 감소로 발생한 원도심 학교의 유휴 공간을 돌봄시설로 전환한 사업으로, 도심 공동화 현상과 늘어나는 돌봄 수요를 동시에 해결하기 위한 새로운 교육 모델로 추진됐다.
특히 인근 혁신도시 지역 과밀학교의 돌봄 수요를 수용할 수 있는 거점형 시설로 운영돼 원도심 교육 인프라 활용도를 높이고 지역 간 교육격차 해소에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
센터는 ‘따뜻한 돌봄, 꿈이 자라는 배움’을 운영 목표로 맞벌이 가정 등 돌봄이 필요한 학생들에게 방과 후 돌봄 서비스를 제공한다. 창의·체험 중심 프로그램과 생활 돌봄, 통학 안전 지원 등을 통해 학생들의 전인적 성장을 지원할 계획이다.
경남교육청은 늘봄진주가 단순한 돌봄 공간을 넘어 원도심과 혁신도시를 연결하는 지역 상생 플랫폼 역할을 할 것으로 보고 있다. 교육 수요 감소로 활용도가 낮아진 학교 시설을 지역사회 자산으로 재활용한 사례라는 점에서도 의미가 크다.
박종훈 교육감은 “늘봄진주는 도심 공동화 현상이라는 지역 문제를 교육적 해법으로 풀어낸 상생과 포용의 공간”이라며 “아이들의 꿈을 키우고 학부모들이 안심할 수 있는 지역 돌봄 거점으로 성장하길 기대한다”고 말했다.
경남교육청은 앞으로도 지역 여건을 반영한 거점형 늘봄시설을 확대해 공적 돌봄 체계를 강화하고, 교육과 지역사회가 함께 성장하는 모델을 지속 발굴할 방침이다.
