브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘이 6·3 지방선거 본투표 당일 서울 일부지역 투표소에서 투표용지 부족 사태가 벌어진데 대해 중앙선거관리위원회를 강하게 질타했다.
송언석 국민의힘 공동선거대책위원장은 4일 입장문을 통해 "국민의 투표권을 심각하게 침해한 사건"이라며 "투표가 끝나지 않은 상황에서 개표를 시작하고도 이를 중단하지 않은 채 책임을 서울시 선관위에 떠넘긴 중앙선관위의 무책임한 태도를 강력히 규탄한다"고 밝혔다.
송 위원장은 이어 "사건의 진상을 철저히 규명하고 책임자를 처벌하는 것은 물론 선관위에 대한 외부 통제 방안 등 강력한 재발 방지 대책을 마련하겠다"고 강조했다.
배현진 서울시당위원장도 이날 국회에서 가진 기자회견에서 "선관위가 선거 때마다 상식적으로 납득하기 어려운 문제를 반복해 왔다"며 "이번 사태를 계기로 선관위 해체를 검토해야 한다. 이미 국가기관으로서의 기능을 상실했다"고 주장했다.
배 위원장은 "오세훈 서울시장 후보의 당선 여부와 별개로 이번 사태에 대한 의혹과 국민적 분노는 사라지지 않는다"며 "노태악 위원장과 허철훈 사무총장은 책임을 지고 즉각 사퇴해야 한다"고 말했다.
주진우 의원도 자신의 페이스북을 통해 서울시 선관위가 일부 투표함 개표 문제를 이유로 당선 확정을 미루는 상황을 언급하며 "선관위의 정치적 중립성이 완전히 무너졌다. 훼손된 국민의 참정권은 회복할 수 없다"면서 노 위원장과 허 사무총장을 직무유기 및 직권남용 혐의로 고발해 책임을 묻겠다고 했다.
안철수 의원은 "대한민국 국민은 투표용지가 동나기 전에 투표소로 달려가야 하는 상황이 된 것이냐"며 "민주주의의 기본인 국민 참여를 선관위가 스스로 가로막았다"고 지적했다. 그는 선관위원 전원의 사퇴와 함께 실무진 직무 배제 및 신속한 수사를 촉구했다.
김용태 의원 역시 "이번 사태의 본질은 선관위가 법치주의에 대한 경각심 없이 안이한 선거 관행을 반복해 온 데 있다"며 "선관위 개혁이 반드시 필요하다"고 주장했다. 다만 "이를 근거 없는 부정선거 음모론으로 확대해 정치적으로 이용하는 행태 역시 경계해야 한다"고 덧붙였다.
서울시장 선거에서 승리한 오세훈 시장 역시 이날 기자들과 만난 자리에서 "민주주의의 가장 기본적인 권리인 시민의 참정권이 침해된 데 대해 깊은 유감을 표한다. 선거 결과와 무관하게 무엇이 문제였는지 철저히 밝혀내고 엄중한 책임과 재발 방지 대책이 뒤따라야 한다"고 말했다.
앞서 3일 지방선거 본투표 과정에서 서울 송파구, 광진구, 동작구 등 14개 투표소에서 투표용지가 부족해 일부 유권자들이 장시간 대기하거나 투표를 하지 못한 채 발길을 돌리는 사태가 발생했다.
