브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 6·3 지방선거 최대 격전지로 꼽힌 서울시장 선거에서 초접전 끝에 패배가 유력해진 정원오 더불어민주당 후보가 4일 승복 의사를 밝혔다.
정 후보는 이날 오전 9시 30분 서울 중구 선거캠프에서 기자회견을 열고 "서울 시민의 선택을 겸허히 받들겠다"며 "모든 것이 제 탓이다. 내가 부족했다"고 말했다.
그는 "더 가까이 다가가지 못했고, 더 깊이 듣지 못했으며, 더 넓게 마음을 얻지 못했다"며 패배의 책임을 자신에게 돌렸다. 이어 오세훈 국민의힘 후보를 향해 "당선을 축하한다"고 전했다.
또 지지자들에게는 "그동안 보내주신 따뜻한 마음과 거리에서 잡아주신 손, 끝까지 함께해주신 응원을 잊지 않겠다"고 감사의 뜻을 전했다.
중앙선거관리위원회에 따르면 이날 오전 10시 17분 기준 개표율 97.92% 상황에서 오 후보는 48.95%를 득표해 48.33%를 기록한 정 후보를 0.62%포인트 차로 앞서고 있다. 두 후보 간 표 차이는 3만1537표다.
선관위 투표용지 부족 사태로 인해 개표가 아직 진행되고 있으나, 오세훈 국민의힘 후보는 사실상 사상 첫 '5선 서울시장'이라는 타이틀을 거머쥐게 됐다.
