[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 더불어민주당 전재수 후보가 초박빙 구도였던 부산시장 선거에서 당선을 확정 지었다. 이로써 민주당은 6년 만에 부산시장을 배출하게 됐다.
4일 오전 2시 22분께 개표율이 90%에 육박하며 전 후보의 당선이 유력해지자, 부산진구에 위치한 선거 상황실에서는 지지자들의 환호와 연호가 이어졌다. 이후 오전 2시 39분께 당선이 확실시되었고, 전 당선인은 오전 2시 50분께 배우자와 함께 선거사무소에 도착했다.
그는 준비된 축하 꽃다발을 받지 않고 박재호 총괄본부장, 변성완 상임선거대책위원장 등 캠프 관계자들과 인사를 나눈 뒤 공식 소감을 발표했다.
전 당선인은 “변화를 선택하신 부산 시민들의 뜻을 무겁게 받들고, 열심히 일하고 일하고 또 일하겠다는 다짐의 말씀을 드린다”고 밝혔다. 이어 경쟁 상대였던 국민의힘 박형준 후보를 향해 “저와 함께 부산의 미래를 열기 위해 경쟁하셨던 박 후보님께도 정말 고생 많으셨다는 말씀을 드린다”며 경의를 표했다.
이어진 질의응답에서 전 당선인은 시장 선거 승리 뒤에 가려진 당내 후보들의 낙선 상황을 짚었다. 이번 선거에 대한 평가를 묻는 질문에 그는 “저의 당선이 마냥 기쁘지만은 않다. 당선된 사람보다 낙선한 사람들이 더 많다”며 “부산에서 선거를 치른다는 것이 여전히 어렵다는 것을 다시 한번 무겁게 느꼈다”고 말했다.
실제로 이번 선거에서 민주당은 다수의 구청장 후보와 시의원 후보가 고배를 마셨다. 특히 민주당의 지역적 기반이었던 북구의 하정우 후보마저 낙선했다. 이에 대해 전 당선인은 “18명 국회의원 중에 단 한 석밖에 없었던 북구의 하정우 후보도 낙선했다”며 “이 모든 것들이 시장 후보였던 저 전재수의 탓이고 제가 부족했던 탓이라고 생각한다”고 전했다.
그는 이어 “낙선하신 우리 당의 여러 동지들께 정말 죄송하고 미안하다는 말씀을 드린다”며 “낙선하신 분들의 그 열정과 마음까지 다 모아서 저 전재수가 부산을 다시 뛰게 만들겠다”고 덧붙였다. 또한 “부산시장으로서 더 열심히 일을 해서 우리 민주당이 부산 시민들의 마음을 한 분이라도 더 얻을 수 있도록, 시민들께 더 사랑받을 수 있는 정당이 될 수 있도록 열과 성을 다하겠다”라고 포부를 밝혔다.
이날 전 당선인은 공식 발언을 마친 뒤, 승리 세레머니를 하는 대신 지원해 준 지지자들과 부산 시민들을 향해 배우자와 함께 큰절을 올리며 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

At around 2:22 a.m. on Wednesday, with the vote count approaching 90 percent, a projection indicating Jeon’s victory prompted applause and chants from supporters at his campaign headquarters in Busanjin District. By 2:39 a.m., his election was confirmed. Jeon arrived at the office at 2:50 a.m. accompanied by his wife. Declining the traditional celebratory bouquets, he greeted campaign chiefs Park Jae-ho and Byeon Sung-wan before delivering his acceptance speech.
"I will carry the heavy will of the Busan citizens who chose change, and I promise to work, work, and work again," Jeon said. He also addressed his conservative opponent, the incumbent Park Heong-joon. "I want to express my appreciation to Candidate Park, who competed with me to open the future of Busan, for his hard work."
Despite his personal victory, Jeon’s speech focused heavily on his party's broader performance in the region, where the Democratic Party faced widespread defeats in municipal and local council elections.
When asked to evaluate the election results, Jeon noted the institutional challenges his party continues to face in the city. "I cannot simply rejoice in my victory. There are far more people who lost today than those who won," Jeon said. "This election reminded me once again of how difficult it still is to run a campaign in Busan."
Jeon specifically highlighted the loss in the Buk District, which had been a critical legislative foothold for his party. "Out of Busan's 18 districts, Candidate Ha Jung-woo lost in the Buk District, our sole legislative seat," Jeon said. "I believe all of this is my fault as the mayoral candidate, and it reflects my own shortcomings."
He expressed his condolences to his fellow party members and framed his upcoming term as a responsibility to rebuild the party's local standing. "I am deeply sorry to our defeated comrades," Jeon said. "I will gather their passion and intent to make Busan run again, and I will do my absolute best as mayor so that the Democratic Party can earn more support from the citizens."
Instead of participating in celebratory photography or public gestures of victory, Jeon and his wife concluded the event by offering a traditional deep bow on the floor to express their gratitude to his supporters and the residents of Busan.
