브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이란이 쿠웨이트 국제공항을 공습해 상당한 피해를 입힌 것으로 전해졌다.
로이터통신 보도에 따르면 쿠웨이트 민간항공국(DGCA)은 3일(현지시간) 성명을 통해 "이란의 드론·미사일 공격으로 쿠웨이트 국제공항 제1터미널(T1)에 상당한 피해와 인명 피해가 발생해 비상대응계획을 발동했다"고 밝혔다.
당국은 공항 안전 확보와 시설 점검을 위해 모든 항공기 운항을 중단했으며, 기존 항공편은 대체 공항으로 우회 운항하고 있다고 설명했다. 운항 재개 여부와 관련해선 공항 보안 및 기술적 안전 조치가 완료될 때까지 중단된다고 했다.
쿠웨이트 국영통신 KNA와 군 당국에 따르면 공항 제1터미널 건물이 공격에 직접 피격돼 상당한 물적 피해가 발생했다. 쿠웨이트군은 드론과 미사일 공격으로 시설이 크게 파손됐으며 여러 명이 부상을 입었다고 밝혔다.
현재까지 이란 정부나 이슬람혁명수비대(IRGC)는 공항 공격과 관련한 공식 입장을 내놓지 않고 있다.
다만 혁명수비대는 전날 성명을 통해 쿠웨이트 내 미 공군기지와 바레인에 주둔한 미 해군 제5함대를 드론과 미사일로 공격했다고 주장했다.
그러나 미국 중부사령부는 쿠웨이트를 향해 발사된 미사일 2발이 목표에 도달하지 못했으며, 이란의 공격은 모두 실패했다고 즉각 반박 성명을 내놨다.
