[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 호아킨 니만(Joaquin Niemann)이 플레이오프 혈투 끝에 테일러 구치(Talor Gooch)를 꺾고 LIV 골프 코리아의 초대 개인전 우승 타이틀을 거머쥐었다. 단체전에서는 브라이슨 디섐보(Bryson DeChambeau)가 이끄는 크러셔스 GC가 리그 역사상 최다 팀 우승 기록을 경신하며 정상에 올랐다.
이번 우승으로 니만은 LIV 골프 통산 8번째 개인전 우승을 달성하며 리그 역사상 최다 우승자 자리를 더욱 공고히 했다. 이는 LIV 골프 역사상 최다 개인전 우승 기록으로, 2위 선수보다 3승이나 많은 수치다. 또한 이번 우승은 지난해 5승을 거둔 이후 2026시즌 첫 승이다.
공동 선두로 최종 라운드를 시작한 니만과 구치는 경기 내내 치열한 접전을 펼치며 나란히 12언더파로 라운드를 마쳤다. 니만이 전반 9홀에서 5개 홀 동안에서 4개의 버디를 몰아치며 앞서나갔으나, 구치가 16번 홀에서 8.5m 장거리 버디 퍼트를 성공시키며 승부를 원점으로 돌렸다.

케이시를 대신해 긴급 투입된 리저브 선수 트래비스 스미스는 찰스 하웰 3세와 함께 공동 8위에 오르는 깜짝 활약을 펼치며 팀 우승의 일등공신이 됐다. 스미스는 LIV 골프 역사상 두 번째로 우승 트로피를 들어 올린 리저브 선수로 이름을 남기게 됐다. 한편 주장 디섐보는 최종합계 11언더파를 기록하며 플레이오프 진출에 단 1타가 모자란 단독 3위로 개인전을 마쳤다.
홈 팬들 열광시킨 한국계 선수들과 부산을 찾은 셀러브리티
한국 팬들의 뜨거운 응원 속에 국내 선수들과 한국계 선수들의 활약도 빛났다. 코리안 GC의 송영한은 홈 코스의 이점을 살려 최종 합계 6언더파를 기록하며 인상적인 경기를 펼쳤고, 고향 부산에서 대회를 치른 문도엽 역시 갤러리들의 환호 속에서 안정적인 플레이를 선보였다. 한국계 미국인인 앤서니 킴도 한국 팬들 앞에서 경기하게 되어 설렌다는 소감과 함께 양호한 성적으로 대회를 마무리했다.

Joaquin Niemann, captain of Torque GC), lifted the trophy at the LIV Golf Korea final round held at Asiad Country Club in Busan, South Korea, on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Niemann finished regulation tied at 12-under par alongside OKGC captain Talor Gooch, before sealing the victory with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
With this win, Niemann secured his eighth career LIV Golf individual title, further cementing his position as the league's most successful individual player with three more wins than his closest competitors. The victory also marks his first win of the 2026 season, following an impressive five-win campaign last year.
Niemann and Gooch entered the final round as co-leaders and went toe-to-toe throughout the day at Asiad Country Club. Niemann surged ahead early by carding four birdies in a five-hole stretch on the front nine.
However, Gooch fought back, draining a dramatic 28-foot (8.5m) birdie putt on the 16th hole to rejoin the lead. In the sudden-death playoff, Niemann stuck his 150-yard approach shot within two meters of the pin and rolled in the birdie putt to capture the historic title.
Crushers GC Overcomes Key Absence to Capture Record-Breaking 10th Team Victory
In the team standings, Crushers GC combined for a total of 23-under par to finish three shots ahead of OKGC, successfully defending their crown in South Korea following their team victory in Incheon last year.
This mark represents Crushers GC’s second team victory of the season and their 10th regular-season title overall. With this milestone, they broke their tie with Legion 13 GC and 4Aces GC to become the winningest team in LIV Golf history.
The historic 10th victory was achieved in just 50 events since establishing their core lineup of DeChambeau, Charles Howell III, Anirban Lahiri, and Paul Casey.
The milestone victory was achieved with a slightly altered roster, as reserve player Travis Smyth stepped in for Paul Casey, who was sidelined due to a wrist injury.
