Park Soo-young, Secretary of the Finance, Economy and Planning Committee, argued, “The Lee Jae-myung administration’s socialist ‘fuel price cap’ caused chaos with long lines at gas stations and fueled public outrage.” He asserted, “If they had implemented a 30% reduction in fuel taxes instead of control, the market would have stabilized immediately.” He also pointed out, “The fact that the won-dollar exchange rate has surpassed the 1,500 won mark—a level seen during the IMF financial crisis—is caused by the collapse of the won’s value due to excessive liquidity supply.” At the same time, they warned, “The President must not be solely engrossed in social media activities but must provide a responsible response to the unprecedented situation where the ceiling on the exchange rate is collapsing,” adding, “If the Venezuelan-style fiscal recklessness is not stopped, it will face catastrophe.” Furthermore, they urged, “Immediately halt the 25 trillion won supplementary budget bill that stimulates the expansion of the money supply.”
Vaccine Foreign Substance Incident and Adoption System
Kim Mi-ae, Secretary General of the Health and Welfare Committee, stated, “The government’s behavior of turning a blind eye to reports of foreign substances in COVID-19 vaccines and prioritizing only the speed of vaccination is a malicious measure that abandons the public’s right to health,” and demanded, “Guarantee a full investigation and re-evaluation for the 14.2 million people who received vaccines with the same batch number.” She also criticized, “Due to its flawed design, the current public adoption system is driving children into facilities rather than into families.” He then urged, “The adoption process, which currently takes nine months while ignoring voices from the field, must be drastically shortened to two to three months,” adding, “Urgent institutional reforms are needed to protect the actual lives of children, not hypocritical human rights.” He further added, “Remember that trust in the government’s disease control and welfare administration has hit rock bottom.”
North Korean Nuclear Threat and Strengthening the ROK-US Alliance
Kang Dae-sik, the ranking member of the National Defense Committee, expressed concern, stating, “We are in a critical situation where North Korea is openly revealing its multi-warhead ICBM technology and the possibility of receiving core technology transfers from Russia has increased.” He noted, “In this context, the President’s mention of ‘prohibiting excessive reliance on the alliance’ is a wrong signal.” He also analyzed, “North Korea’s goal is a ‘strategy of isolating South Korea while engaging the US’ to shake the ROK-US alliance and negotiate directly with the United States.”
He warned, “Now is not the time to obscure security messages, but the time to demonstrate firmness based on the solid ROK-US alliance,” adding, “Do not forget that the moment the alliance wavers, the entire security of the Republic of Korea will collapse.” In addition, they urged, “We must establish a state of emergency to prepare for the leap toward complete strategic weapons, such as North Korea’s launch of a new ICBM.”
Call for Stabilization of Jeonse and Monthly Rent Markets
Lee Jong-wook, Secretary General of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, pointed out, “The housing ladder for ordinary people has completely collapsed, with Jeonse listings in Seoul plummeting by 27% in just three months and monthly rents hitting an all-time high.” He noted, “The reality is that ordinary people, blocked from moving, are forced to reluctantly cling to contract renewals.” He also criticized the Lee Jae-myung administration, stating, “The supply performance of public rental housing is merely a token gesture, amounting to only 0.38% of the private sector volume.”
He further urged, “Policies focused solely on regulation that pressures multi-homeowners without increasing supply have caused the Jeonse and monthly rent crisis,” adding, “We must present practical supply measures in areas preferred by the public, rather than public rental housing that is merely a slogan.” In addition, he ordered, “We will devote all our efforts to realizing housing stability for ordinary people through market-friendly alternatives.”
ROK-US Cooperation in Science, Technology, and Nuclear Energy
Choi Hyung-doo, Secretary General of the Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, reported, “I met with key figures in the U.S. Congress and strongly emphasized the necessity of sharing nuclear-powered submarine technology and cooperating on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).” He added, “We must continuously emphasize that the Republic of Korea’s core interests align with those of the United States.” He also stated, “I will accelerate congressional diplomacy to ensure that major pending issues, such as securing visa quotas for Koreans, do not make any progress.”
He further asserted, “The bright nighttime satellite images of the Republic of Korea, contrasting with the darkness of North Korea, are the fruits of peaceful nuclear energy utilization achieved in compliance with the NPT,” and declared, “I will dispel concerns within the U.S. government and public regarding nuclear armament and secure substantive technological cooperation.” In addition, he added, “To mark the 60th anniversary of the ROK-US science and technology alliance, we will maximize mutual benefits in the fields of aerospace and AI.”
Activities of the party's internal nomination management committee and special committees: “Securing fairness in nominations and eradicating surveillance of left-leaning media”
The People Power Party’s nomination management committee (chaired by Lee Jung-hyun) finalized candidates for heads of local governments in four regions, including Gangnam, Songpa, and Gangseo in Seoul, and Dalseo in Daegu, through primary elections. In particular, it showed its determination for personnel reform by recommending that talented individuals selected through youth auditions be placed in safe zones for election.
The Special Committee on Media (chaired by Lee Sang-hwi) strongly raised suspicions of “surveillance of petitioners” by the Committee on Media Relations. Chairman Lee Sang-hwi demanded an investigation, stating, “The leakage of personal information to specific media outlets and its use to attack civic group activists is a serious abuse of power.” The Special Committee on Freedom of the Press also labeled Ko Kwang-heon, the candidate for chairman of the Committee on Media Relations, as a “3-No (unfairness, left-leaning, and irrationality) candidate,” and urged his resignation, stating, “A person who blindly follows conspiracy theories and has serious political bias must step down on their own.” Finally, all National Assembly members from Busan condemned the Democratic Party’s behavior of blocking the ‘Special Act on Busan Global Hub City’ in the Judiciary Committee as ‘intentional obstruction.’ The Busan lawmakers strongly demanded the immediate submission of the bill, stating, “The Democratic Party must stop its irresponsible politics of holding Busan’s future hostage and stop using the bill as an election tool for a specific lawmaker.”
