필자는 두 번에 걸쳐 아랍에미리트(UAE)를 방문한 바 있습니다. 그 국가의 초청이었습니다. 두바이 아부다비 등을 돌아봤습니다. 사막 여행도 해봤습니다. 몹시 무더운 나라였습니다. 새벽 시간마저도 한여름 날씨였습니다. 이 나라에서는 눈을 볼 수도 없었습니다.
그런데? 한반도는 그 나라와 다르게, 4계절이 또렷한 국토를 가지고 있습니다. 춘하추동. 4계절이 있습니다. 만물이 자라고 수확하는 계절이 있습니다. 하늘에서 나풀거리고 내리는 하얀 눈을 볼 수 있는 나라입니다. 이런 천혜(天惠)의 국토를 가진 한국이 앞으로 10년 이내에 세계 최대의 관광 대국이 되리라고 예측합니다.
