[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 사천시는 정부가 추진 중인 「우주항공산업진흥원」의 사천시 설립을 촉구하기 위해 범시민 서명운동을 본격 추진한다고 13일 밝혔다.
이번 서명운동은 정부가 「제4차 우주개발진흥 기본계획 수정계획(2025년 11월)」을 통해 우주항공 정책기획, 산업 육성, 인프라 구축·관리, 국제협력 등을 전담할 우주항공산업진흥원 설립을 공식화하고, 우주항공산업발전 민관협의체 구성 등 정책 추진체계 정비와 민간 중심 산업 육성의 실행 단계에 들어선 데 따른 것이다.
사천시는 대한민국 우주항공 정책 컨트롤타워인 우주항공청이 위치한 도시로, 항공기와 우주체계의 설계·제작·시험·정비(MRO)에 이르는 전주기 산업 생태계를 갖춘 국내 대표 우주항공 산업 집적지이다.
이는 정책을 수립하는 기관과 이를 실현하는 산업 현장이 한 도시 안에 구축된 구조로, 진흥원이 수행할 기업 지원·사업화·산업 경쟁력 강화 기능을 가장 신속하고 효율적으로 구현할 수 있는 국가 전략적 조건에 가장 부합한다.
