그러면서 “덴마크는 2차대전에서 독일군에 불과 6시간 만에 함락되는 등 자국·그린란드 방어 능력이 전혀 없었으며 미국이 어쩔 수 없이 군대를 파견해 덴마크를 위해 싸웠고 그린란드를 구했다”며 "우리가 없었더라면 지금쯤 여러분은 모두 독일어, 조금은 일본어를 말하고 있을 것"이라고 했다.
또 “미국이 요구하는 건 그린란드란 지역뿐”이라며 “사람들은 내가 무력을 사용할 거라 생각했는데 무력을 사용할 필요가 없고 무력을 쓰고 싶지 않으며 쓰지도 않을 것”이라고 했다.
