도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 9일(현지시간) "그들(이란 정부)이 과거처럼 사람들을 죽이기 시작하면 개입할 것이며 이란이 아픈 곳을 매우 세게 때리겠다"고 경고했다.
미 'NBC' 'CNBC' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 워싱톤 DC 백악관에서 열린 석유·가스 기업 경영자들과의 회의에서 이같이 밝히면서 격화되고 있는 이란 사태에 대한 향후 미국의 군사적 개입 가능성을 시사했다.
그러면서 "(이란 타격은) 지상군 투입 의미는 아니며 상황을 매우 긴밀히 주시하고 있다"며 "단지 이란 시위대가 안전하길 바라며 이란 지도자들에게 '(시위대를) 쏘기 시작하지 않는 게 좋을 것이고, 그러면(쏘면) (군사 개입을) 시작하겠다 말하고 있다"고 밝혔다.
