김승연 회장은 이달 8일 제주 서귀포시 하원동에 있는 한화시스템 제주우주센터를 방문했다. 이 자리에는 한화그룹 우주사업을 총괄하는 김동관 부회장 등 경영진이 함께 했다.
김 회장은 전시관을 둘러본 뒤 제주우주센터의 올해 사업계획과 전반적인 우주사업 현황을 보고받았다. 이어 현장 근무 중인 연구원들을 만나 격려했다. 김 회장이 한화시스템 사업장을 찾은 것은 이번이 처음이다.
이날 김회장은 제주우주센터 방명록에 ‘어려워도 반드시 가야할 길을 가는 것, 그것이 한화의 사명입니다. 제주우주센터와 함께 대한민국을 지키는 대표 기업으로 우뚝 섭시다’고 적고 친필사인을 남겼다.

또한, 김 회장은 방진복을 착용하고 제주우주센터 클린룸을 둘러봤다. 클린룸에는 △진공상태, 극저온(-180℃), 극고온(150℃) 환경을 모사한 우주환경 시험장 △고출력 전자기파 환경에서 안전하고 정상적인 작동을 검증하는 전자파 시험장 등이 있다. 이후 김 회장은 임직원들과 함께 오찬을 하며 소통과 격려의 시간을 가졌다.

이어 “어려워도 반드시 가야할 길을 가는 것, 그것이 한화의 사명”이라며 “그렇게 난관을 뚫고 우리가 만든 위성이 지구의 기후 변화를 관측하고, 안보를 지키며, 인류의 더 나은 삶에 기여하는 것이 한화가 추구하는 진정한 사업의 의미이고 가치다”고 강조했다.
