이재명 더불어민민당 대표는 경기지사 시절인 지난 2017년 1월 11일, SBS 8 뉴스의 대선 주자에게 묻는다 인터뷰에 출연해 "꿈꾸는 대한민국의 모습은 어떤 것이냐. 대통령 후보가 된다면 대선 공약 1호는 무엇이냐"는 질문에, 당시 이재명 경기지사는 "공약 딱 한 개만 꼽으라면 정부의 부정부패 요소를 완전히 뿌리 뽑을 수 있도록 윤석열 검사 같은 사람을 검찰총장으로 임명해서 정부 내 부패를 청산할 수 있도록 하겠다"고 말했다.
