정부여당은 8일 국회에서 고위 당정협의회를 열고 이같이 결정했다고 김상훈 국민의힘 정책위의장이 브리핑했다.
김상훈 정책위의장은 "당정은 설 연휴 기간 내수경기 진작과 관광 활성화를 도모하기 위해 1월 27일을 임시공휴일로 지정하는 것으로 협의했다"면서 "과거 현대경제연구원은 임시공휴일 지정에 경제적 파급 영향 보고서를 통해서 경제 전체 생산 유발액 4조2000억, 부가가치 유발액 1조6300억 등에 영향 미치는 것 분석한 바 있다"고 설명했다.
이어 "내수경기 진작과 관광 활성화 등 긍정적 효과가 클 것으로 예상하고 있다"면서 "국민께 휴식의 기회를 확대 제공하면서 삶의 질 개선에도 역할을 할 수 있을 것으로 판단한다"고 했다.
김상훈 정책위의장은 또한 "부차적으로 명절 연휴 기간 확대로 인한 교통량 분산 효과 등의 다양한 효과를 기대하고 있다"며 "임시공휴일 지정으로 좀 더 따뜻하고 여유로운 을사년 설 연휴가 되길 기원하면서 임시공휴일 혜택으로부터 소외되는 국민이 없도록 세심히 살필 것을 약속한다"고 말했다.
