세종특별자치시교육청(교육감 최교진, 이하 세종시교육청)은 지난 7일 오후 세종시교육청 2층 대강당에서 ‘지속가능발전교육(Education for Sustainable Development/이하 ESD) 나눔의 날 공개 토론회’를 성황리에 마무리했다고 9일 밝혔다.
재작년부터 진행되어온 이번 공개 토론회는 올해로 3회째를 맞이했으며, 2024년 한 해 동안 학생, 교원, 학부모, 시민 등이 함께 참여한 지속가능발전교육 활동에 관한 내용을 공유하고, 향후 운영 방향을 공유하기 위해 마련되었다.
이번 토론회에는 지속가능발전교육 민관학 협력단체, 지속가능발전교육 실천연구회, 세종청소년기후행동협의회 등에서 활동한 학생·학부모·교원·시민 등 100여 명이 참석했으며, 2024년 세종시교육청 ESD의 ▲참여 활동별 토의, ▲기조 발제, ▲분과별 토의 내용 발표의 순으로 진행됐다.
참여 교원과 학생, 시민들은 '민관학 거버넌스', '실천연구회 교원', '시민 강사', '청소년기후행동협의회의 4개 분과에서 각각 성찰과 토론의 시간을 가졌다.
4개 활동영역 중 ‘민관학 협력단체’에 참여한 교원, 학생,시민 등은 5개 주제 영역별로 학습한 내용과 활동한 내용들을 발표했으며, 실천연구회 활동 교원은 학교에서 이루어지는 ESD에 대한 성찰과 장기적인 발전 방향에 대해 논의를 진행했다.
또한, 시민 강사는 학교를 대상으로 실시한 찾아가는 ESD 수업에 관한 다양한 우수 사례를 공유하는 시간을 가졌고, 세종청소년기후행동협의회의 청소년은 세종시의 지속가능성 문제에 관해 탐구한 내용을 자세하게 발표했다.
이어 지속가능발전교육 거점도시(RCE)로 선정된 도봉구의 도봉구청 배현순 주무관이 ‘미래 세대를 위한 유엔(UN)대학 인증 지속가능발전교육 거점도시(RCE)의 역할’을 주제로 기조 발제를 진행했다.
끝으로 지속가능발전교육도시를 위한 교원, 학생, 시민 등 교육공동체의 역할에 관한 토론과 나아가야 할 방향에 대한 논의가 이뤄졌다.
신명희 교육국장은 “올해로 3회째 맞이하는 지속가능발전교육 나눔의 날이야말로 세종시에 지속가능한 시민이 있다는 것을 알리는 뜻깊은 자리다”라며, “세종시교육청이 유엔(UN)대학으로부터 지속가능발전교육 거점도시(RCE) 로 지정되는 날을 앞둔 만큼, 교육공동체와 함께 협력하여 지속가능한 미래를 만들기 위해 실천하고 변화하도록 노력하겠다”고 전했다.

Teachers, students, and citizens who participated in the ‘Public-private-academic cooperation group’ among the four activity areas presented what they learned and what they did in each of the five topic groups, and teachers in the Practical Research Group discussed reflections on ESD in schools and long-term development directions.
In addition, citizen lecturers had time to share various best practices related to visiting ESD classes for schools, and youth from the Sejong Youth Climate Action Council presented in detail what they explored regarding the sustainability issues of Sejong City.
Next, Dobong-gu Office Chief Bae Hyeon-sun, who was selected as a sustainable development education hub city (RCE), gave a keynote speech on the topic of ‘The role of the UN University-certified sustainable development education hub city (RCE) for future generations.’
Finally, there was a discussion on the role of the education community, including teachers, students, and citizens, for sustainable development education cities and the direction in which they should move forward.
