서천군은 종천면에 위치한 '서천군장애인보호작업장'이 지난 8일 준공 및 개관식을 시작으로 본격적인 운영에 들어갔다고 9일 밝혔다.
이번 행사에는 김기웅 군수, 천주교 대전교구 총대리 한정현 주교를 비롯한 관계자, 주민 등 200여 명이 참석했으며, 지역 장애인의 자립을 지원하고 사회 참여를 확대하기 위해 조성된 보호작업장의 탄생과 출발을 다함께 축하했다.
서천군장애인보호작업장은 충남도 균형발전사업의 일환으로 사업비 66억 원을 투입해 연면적 1660㎡ 규모로 건립됐다.
장애물 없는 건축물로 설계된 이 작업장은 ▲조미김과 모시떡 작업장 등 생산공간 ▲집단활동실, 재활상담실 등 복지공간 ▲사무실 등의 관리공간으로 구성됐다.
김기웅 군수는 축사를 통해 “서천군장애인보호작업장은 장애인들이 자립과 사회적 역할을 실현하는 데 큰 힘이 될 것”이라며 “장애인 복지 증진을 위한 다양한 정책과 사업을 적극 추진하겠다”고 강조했다.
한정현 주교는 “이 작업장이 장애인의 삶에 희망과 용기를 전하는 공간이 되길 바란다”며 “모두가 함께 협력해 사랑과 배려가 가득한 공동체로 발전하길 기대한다”고 말했다.
한편, 군은 앞으로 작업장을 통해 장애인 맞춤형 일자리 제공과 직업훈련을 실시해 장애인의 자립 역량을 강화하고 다양한 생산 활동과 프로그램을 운영해 지역사회와의 협력을 통한 지속 가능한 장애인 고용 모델을 구축할 계획이다.
