시에 따르면 ‘그린바이오 벤처캠퍼스’는 지난 2022년 농림축산식품부 공모사업에 포항시가 선정돼 총사업비 350억 원이 투자되며, 연면적 5,700㎡로 지상 3층 규모로 건설될 계획이다.
그린바이오 분야에 특화된 ▲연구 장비 및 시생산 지원 장비 구축 ▲기업 입주 공간 제공 ▲기업지원 프로그램운영 등으로 그린바이오 벤처 기업의 육성을 전문적으로 지원할 계획이다.
포항시는 이번 그린바이오 벤처캠퍼스 착공으로 정부가 중점적으로 추진 중인 그린바이오 산업 발전 정책의 중요한 전환점이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
특히 포항에서 추진 중인 그린바이오 소재 첨단분석시스템 구축 사업, 동물용 그린바이오의약품 산업화 거점 조성 사업 등 다양한 사업과의 연계로 지역 바이오산업의 혁신과 성장을 가속화 할 전망이다.
한편 이날 착공식에 이어 그린바이오 산업의 정책 방향을 지자체와 논의하기 위한 그린바이오 산업 발전협의회가 송미령 농림축산식품부장관과 경북, 강원, 전북, 충남, 경남 5개 지자체 및 유관기관장, 학계, 그린바이오 관련 기업 등 50여 명이 참석한 가운데 열렸다.
포항 지식산업센터에서 열린 협의회는 그린바이오 산업 우수 기업 소개 및 제품 전시 관람을 시작으로 그린바이오 벤처 캠퍼스 구축을 위한 그린바이오 벤처 캠퍼스 5개 지자체 간 협력 MOU가 진행됐으며, 2025 CES 혁신상 수상기업인 포항의 미드바르 서충모 대표의 그린바이오 벤처창업 성공스토리에 대한 기조 강연은 참석자들의 깊은 공감을 이끌어 냈다.
이후 ▲그린바이오산업 육성 성과 및 향후 계획 ▲그린바이오 벤처기업의 현장 애로사항과 개선 방안 ▲벤처기업 창업 활성화를 위한 기관별 역할과 중·장기 전략 등에 대해 심도 있는 토론이 이어졌다.
이강덕 시장은 “포항시가 바이오산업 활성화에 꾸준히 노력해 온 결과 가시적인 성과를 보이고 있다”며 “그린바이오 벤처캠퍼스와 그린바이오 산업 발전협의회를 발판 삼아 그린바이오 산업의 거점 도시로 자리매김하기를 기대하며, 관련 산업 생태계 조성과 혁신을 가속화하기 위한 그린바이오 산업 육성 지구에 내년 경북 포항이 지정될 수 있도록 시정 역량을 집중하겠다”고 말했다.
