파주시의회 자치행정위원회 예산안 예비심사에서 여성친화도시 조성 사업 예산 126백만 원을 삭감하자, 파주시는 지난 4년간 여성의 사회참여 증진과 안전한 지역사회 조성을 위한 젠더폭력 예방 등의 특화사업을 추진할 수 없게 되었다며 우려를 표했다.

2009년 익산시를 시작으로 성 평등한 지역사회를 만들기 위한 여성친화도시 조성 사업은 올해로 수원시, 용인시, 고양시 등 경기도 15개 시군을 포함해 전국에서 104개 기초자치단체가 추진하고 있다.
법적으로 의무 추진 사업이 아님에도 여성친화도시 조성 사업이 시작된 지 15년 만에 전국에서 절반에 가까운 기초자치단체가 적극적으로 참여하는 이유는 단순히 ‘성평등’이라는 브랜드 가치로서의 의미만이 아니라, 시민들이 실질적인 변화를 목도하면서 요구하고 있기 때문이다.

올해에는 특히 젠더폭력 예방 교육 강사단을 자체적으로 양성하고 학생을 대상으로 한 맞춤형 표준강의안을 제작하여 초, 중, 고등학생의 젠더폭력 예방을 위한 성평등 교육을 124회 시범적으로 추진했다.
