브레이크뉴스 임국정 기자 = 한동훈 국민의힘 대표가 8일 "질서 있는 대통령 조기 퇴진으로 대한민국과 국민들께 미칠 혼란을 최소화하면서, 안정적으로 정국을 수습하고 자유민주주의를 바로 세우겠다"라고 밝혔다.
한 대표는 이날 서울 여의도 국민의힘 중앙당사에서 열린 한덕수 국무총리와의 대국민 공동 담화를 통해 이같이 전하며 "퇴진 전이라도 대통령은 외교를 포함한 국정에 관여하지 않을 것"이라고 말했다.
그는 "질서 있는 퇴진으로 혼란을 최소화해 국민과 국제적인 불안감을 해소하고 민생과 국격을 회복시키겠다"라며 "당내에 논의를 거쳐서 그 구체적인 방안들을 조속히 말씀드릴 것"이라고 전했다.
이어 "국민의힘 당 대표와 국무총리의 회동을 정례화하겠다"라며 "주 1회 이상의 정례 회동, 그리고 상시적인 소통을 통해 경제, 외교, 국방 등 시급한 국정 현안을 논의하고 대책을 마련해 한 치의 국정 공백도 일어나지 않게 하겠다"라고 설명했다.

국민의 희생으로 일구어낸 자유민주주의는 대한민국의 자부심입니다. 하지만 지난 12월 3일 대통령의 비상계엄 선포와 계엄군의 국회 진입 등의 사태는 대한민국 자유민주주의를 훼손하는 반헌법적인 행위였습니다. 그러나 국회는 2시간 30분 만에 계엄 해제 요구안을 의결했고, 결국 5시간 만에 반헌법적인 비상계엄은 합헌적인 방식으로 저지되었습니다. 이를 통해서 우리 대한민국의 시스템이 정상적으로 운영되고 있고, 성숙한 자유민주주의 체제가 건재함이 증명되었습니다.
하지만 비상계엄 사태로 인한 국민적인 불안과 국가적인 피해 돌이킬 수 없을 정도로 막대합니다. 국민들께서 정부에 느낀 실망감과 불신은 대단히 큽니다. 윤석열 대통령이 남은 임기 동안 정상적인 국정 운영을 할 수 없으므로 직에서 물러나야 한다는 것이 국민 다수의 판단이라고 생각합니다. 국민의힘은 집권 여당으로서 준엄한 국민의 평가와 심판을 겸허하게 받아들입니다.
